Experienced Structural Steel Welder (Second Shift)

We are currently seeking an experienced Structural Steel Welder to join our second shift team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding structural steel components, ensuring high-quality welds that meet industry standards and project specifications. This role requires working during the second shift four days a week (typically 2:30 PM - 1:00am) to support our production schedule. Key Responsibilities • Welding Operations: Perform welding on structural steel components using FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) to AWS D1.1 standards. • Blueprint Reading: Interpret and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols to execute precise welds. • Material Preparation: Prepare steel surfaces by cutting, grinding, and cleaning to ensure proper weld quality. • Quality Control: Inspect welds for accuracy, strength, and compliance with specifications, addressing any defects promptly. • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in safe and optimal working condition. • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations. • Team Collaboration: Work closely with fabricators, supervisors, and quality control teams to meet project deadlines and maintain workflow efficiency. • Second Shift Duties: Operate effectively during second shift hours, maintaining productivity and communication with the team. Qualifications • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience as a structural steel welder in a fabrication or construction environment. • Certifications: AWS D1.1 welding certification preferred; ability to pass written and physical weld tests • Technical Skills: FCAW welding processes; familiarity with oxy-acetylene cutting and plasma cutting is a plus. • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in various positions. • Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of a welding apprenticeship or vocational training program is preferred. Working Conditions • Work is performed in a fabrication shop environment, with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. • Second shift schedule (2:30 PM - 1:00 AM but can vary), Monday through Friday, with possible extra hours for overtime. • Use of PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory. Acara Solutions is looking for Production Operators/Welders to work for our partner located in Plattsburgh, NY who specializes in Transportation Manufacturing. What you will receive: Pay Rate: $24.50/hour with overtime opportunities available. 1st shift 6 am 2:30 am 2nd shift if needed 2-10:30 .75 cents premium Here is what you will do: • Perform production tasks in factory on dedicated workstations • Pilot, clean, maintain assembly and test robots • Assemble and inspect finished product to ensure defined quality level on time • Execute assembly and welding of parts made of stainless steel on plates from 1,5mm to 6mm thickness in all welding positions performing the welding process: MIG / MAG, regulating and preparing the welding equipment according to internal instruction (voltage, amperage, welding speed, oscillation, flow of shielding gas and so on). • Use tools, equipment and instruments such as: measuring tape, scale, square and gauges to make visual weld checking. • Conduct assembly before welding, positioning the parts and performing tack welds to place them at the correct location, verifying the quality, specifications and measurements of the drawing. • Monitor the activities of other welding technicians, conveying instructions, technical norms, drawings, technical guidance and organization/cleaning of the equipment / workstations, to help them fulfill their activities within the deadlines established and comply with quality norms. • Use the APSYS tools (5s / Autonomous Team / SMED / TPM / Self Inspection / Shop Floor Meeting). • Execute welding activities according to the needs of the area and through specific qualifications. Required Skills / Qualifications: • SENAI or equivalent in training / course to be Arc Welder at technical school. • Experience in the welding process TIG is desirable in order to be used in case of welding repairs.
