Job description: JOB DUTIES: Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter performs numerous activities required in repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of marine boats and barges. Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter works 8 plus hour shifts in groups of 1 to 6 people depending upon job requirements and performing welding activities in all positions, climbing ladders and scaffolds, lifting heavy equipment including chain hoists and large wrenches from floor to waist to overhead, swinging 16lb sledgehammers in awkward positions, and performing gripping activities with both hands in utilization of cutting, burning, and welding activities. Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter applicants must possess the ability to work in awkward positions and function in a shipyard environment which includes extreme weather temperatures and air pollutants produced with welding, burning, blasting, and painting. Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter Essential Functions: • Occasional lift/carry propeller wrenches 68 lbs to 120 lbs. • Occasional lifting/carrying 3 to 5 ton chain falls weighing 60 to 80 lbs 100+ ft. • Occasional lifting 3 to 5 ton chain falls overhead from a step ladder with the aid of another employee. • Swinging of 16lb sledge hammer repetitively to tighten and loosen large nuts. • Crawling on hands and knees 100+ ft. • Lying on your back on creepers pushing the creeper 100+ ft with working in confined spaces down to 18” in height. • Climbing in and out of round manholes with inside diameter of 18 inches and work in internally confined spaces. • Performing work duties in awkward positions for extended lengths of time. • Pulling chain hoists with repetitive pull down forces of 60 to 80 lbs. • Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights; negotiate uneven heights between dock and vessel; and negotiate uneven surfaces. • Frequent standing and walking on awkward, slick, and uneven surfaces. • Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, and working in awkward positions. • Frequent balancing on uneven surfaces. • Comprehend blueprints, sketches and templates. • Manipulate and operate all machines and tools essential to the performance of the position of Welder/Fabricator/Fitter/Cutter such as: Sledge Hammer Welding Leads Oxygen/Acetylene gauges Welding Hood Welding Rods Cutting Torch Leaf Break Welder Gloves Air Tools Bench Grinders Forklift Socket Sets Vices Micrometers Cherry Picker Calipers Hand Tools Welding Machines Hand Grinders Chain Hoist Come-a-Long • Maneuver around 30" obstructions and 24" frames; • Ascend and work at heights of up to 40 feet.
