Structural Welder

Structural Welder (Pulse Arc) • Location: Newport News, VA* $45/hr and $140 in per diem Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Welder with expertise in Pulse Arc welding techniques to join our team. You will be responsible for assisting on the building of nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers. This role requires a minimum of four years of experience in naval shipyard environments, specializing in various welding processes including Pulse Arc Welding (GMAW-P), Stick Welding (SMAW), MIG Welding (GMAW), and Flux-Core Welding. Responsibilities • Perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P processes. • Work efficiently in physically demanding environments such as shipboard, sub-assemblies, and staging areas. • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations pertinent to the shipbuilding industry. • Utilize air carbon arc gouging techniques and properly use fillet and butt weld gauges. • Pass all position, multi-pass butt weld welder qualification tests according to MIL-STD-248D standards. Essential Skills • 4+ years of experience with GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P welding processes. • Experience in physically demanding environments and working with shipboard sub-assemblies. • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for shipbuilding. • Skill in air carbon arc gouging. • Ability to use fillet and butt weld gauges accurately. Location: Newport News, VA Per diem is $45/hr and $140 in per diem Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Atlanta, GA. This opportunity is ideal for welders who specialize in both Stick (SMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes and are confident working on complex, high-code piping systems. About the Role This position requires a welder with expertise in the Master Combo Weld Test on 2" schedule 160 wall pipe, a critical qualification involving welding in the 6G position. The test covers welding with both Stick and TIG processes in accordance with stringent power piping codes B31.1 and B31.3 and includes X-ray inspection to ensure the highest quality welds. Due to the high cost and technical complexity of the testing process, candidates must be highly confident and seasoned in these skills. The successful candidate will perform pipe welding tasks on-site, working primarily with carbon steel pipe with thick walls (schedule 160).
