Solar Field Service Technician (Paris, TX)

About the position Responsibilities • Ensure all employees follow safe practices while working. • Work safely under all circumstances and seek guidance for unfamiliar tasks. • Operate and care for company property, equipment, and tooling. • Service solar equipment in multiple solar plants under supervision. • Perform basic solar equipment testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under supervision. • Replace or repair solar parts and/or equipment under supervision. • Respond 'on-call' to assist in emergency equipment repairs as directed by supervisor. • Prepare accurate documentation and required reports of work performed. • Complete other responsibilities as assigned. • Assess and suggest improved processes and collaborate on new technologies with EPC management. Requirements • High School Diploma or GED; Vocational/Technical School training is a plus. • Demonstrated ability to work in a mechanical/electrical environment through training or previous experience. • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. • Ability to identify and perform effective Lock Out/Tag Out of energized parts/systems. • Basic understanding of a solar installation/plant. • Basic knowledge of testing equipment. • Basic computer operation skills. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Obtain NFPA 70e Safety Training certification. • Remain current in all safety and technical trainings. • Effective verbal and written English communication skills. • Effective organizational skills. • Ability to work at remote locations in extreme weather conditions. • Ability to work on an 'on call' basis, including weekends or after-hours situations. • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Purpose: BayWa r.e. Americas is seeking a Solar Field Technician to join our Operations team. Solar Field Technicians assist in the successful maintenance of commercial solar systems in the United States. They are responsible for assisting with preparation, handling, and supplying of materials to be used. Assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in compliance with site assessment and schematics. Thise role will also measure, cut, assemble, and bolt structural framing and solar modules. Solar Field Technician will operate machinery on site to avoid Health & Safety issues and to provide maximum generation. Responsibilities we will trust you with: • Support and assist in the maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage equipment such as inverters, combiner boxes, switchgear, transformers, voltage regulators, electrical protective devices, main and auxiliary generators, metering systems and battery support systems. · Ensure safe work practices and company safety programs and policies relative to the installation and maintenance of these systems. · Install and maintain electrical service equipment, wiring, and conduit required for the proper functioning of solar PV systems. · Assist in job safety and overall crew support including staging materials, general site work support, as well as site preparation and clean up. · Provide regular updates of job status, and complete necessary paperwork daily. · Assist and work with others as needed. · Comfortable working on ladders and tight spaces. · Perform quality control to identify hazards and defects. · Follow instructions, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. · Use appropriate hand tools (i.e. crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver, etc.) and power tools (i.e. Drills, Impact Wrenches) to perform a variety of functions to install and maintain photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions. · Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified. · Apply weather sealing to array, building, support mechanisms, or breaker box. · Identify and resolve any deficiencies in photovoltaic (PV) system installation or materials. · Install the required labels on solar system components and hardware. · Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency. · Activate photovoltaic (PV) systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectations. · Compile or maintain records of system operation, performance, and maintenance. · Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards. • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, the smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens). • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment. • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards. • Ability to understand and follow directions. • May require travel to other East Coast Projects as needed Solar Field Technician Highlights – • Must have a valid drivers license • Permanent, full-time position with full benefits, bonuses, etc. • Company vehicle & PPE Equipment will be provided • Background Screening Required Your areas of knowledge and expertise: • High School diploma. · 5+ years of experience working as a Solar Installer or equivalent combination of education and experience in a construction setting. · Experience in reading blueprints, plan sets, and/or technical drawings. · Mechanical aptitude and motivation to learn and follow directions · Working knowledge of the Solar Photovoltaic construction craft and the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for ground installation. · Experience working with High Voltage. · Must be able to understand service and technical manuals. · Experience in evaluating information to determine compliance with standards. · Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving, and drug screen. · Must have a valid driver’s license, maintain an insurable driving record, and demonstrate a history of safe driving practices. Job Summary The Solar Installer is part of the team that is largely responsible for the safe and successful installation of various solar equipment. The Solar Installer will utilize a wide variety of tools and machines to assemble and construct the solar equipment based on the scheduled work plans. Key Responsibilities • Follow safety policies and procedures. • Maintain a clean job site and shake out material to the field. • Bolt up clamps for solar panels. • Hoist torque tubes into position and align/secure torque tubes. • Set drive motors. • Installation of dampeners and linkage between drive motors. • Set and install solar modules. • Tighten bolts to the proper torque specifications. • Receive/stock materials and maintain accurate inventory. • Quality control for the scope of work. • When using equipment fill out equipment checklist and verify all items are in good working order, if not report the issue prior to damage occurring. Follow up with supervisor continually if not addressed. • Maintain tools used for installation to ensure they are in proper working condition and return tools at the end of work shift. • General cleanup of materials and debris. • Ability to work in a production environment where daily production goals are set, evaluated, and optimized • All other duties assigned by site leadership Qualifications • Experience with solar construction projects preferred but not required. • Prior experience using various tools that are required to install mechanical assemblies. • Ability to perform heavy lifting, pushing, pulling of material weighing 50 lbs. • Ability to squat, crawl and work in awkward positions and confined spaces. • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation. • Unrestricted use of hands, arms, shoulders, upper/lower back, visual acuity, depth, and color perception. • Self-motivated and takes initiative. • Ability to work well with others in a team environment. • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. • Age 18+ • Proof of Identity and Employment Authorization McCarthy is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, including disability and protected veteran status.
