Sheet Metal Shop Foreman/Manager About Pickens Contracting, Inc (Formerly known as Pickens Roofing): We are a family owned Roofing, ACM Panel Installation, and Sheet Metal Contracting Company located in the Upstate since 1904. Our main office is in Greer, SC, but our field crews work on multiple site locations. We currently have approximately 80 employees. This person must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment. There is room for growth in this position as the Company grows for a very self-motivated and quick learner! Our Sheet Metal Division is rapidly growing in the SC and NC areas and we are seeking top talent in the Upstate, SC Position Summary • Looking for: • Sheet Metal Shop Manager • All positions need to be able to: • Communicate with members of the crew as well as project supervisor. • Maintain project area in a neat and orderly fashion. Skills Required • Ability to use all hand tools associated with sheet metal fabrication including simple hand tools and specific sheet metal related tools. • Ability to identify safety hazards in project area and take corrective measures to eliminate or reduce risks associated with those hazards. • Assign or procure proper tools and equipment required to complete specific tasks or projects • Track and record all tools and equipment to and from jobs • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy weighted objects including materials and equipment. • Knowledge of light gauge sheet metal fabrication machinery and tools • Ability to lift 40 - 75lbs • Dependable and able to be at work on time. • Self-motivated Education and Experience • Driver’s License is required in lead role and reliable transportation is required in installer positions. • Flexibility to travel to local and out of town jobsites. Roles and Responsibilities • Supervise the layout, assembly and installation of various types and sizes of sheet metal duct • Solve job related problems/challenges and escalate accordingly • Inventory material • Direct others on work activities and organize the scheduling of resources. • Assess manpower and material needed for tasks • Manage and direct crew sizes of 2 to 15 workers • Plan out tasks for crew • Read blueprints and equipment packaging lists for assembly. • Solve simple job-related problems and bring solutions to the superintendent or project manager. • Coordinate and communicate with customers, owners’ reps, trade partners, subcontractors • Ability to work with a variety of tools, large machines, and specialty equipment. • Support the Superintendent and Project Manager to complete the project on time. • Provide the best quality and productive work without contact reminders. • Follow, implement and enforce all safety policies and procedures Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time. • Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time. Qualifications and Education Requirements • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, and some weekends) • Must have reliable transportation • Must have reliable form of communication • Must have good written and verbal communication skills • Must show up on time in the appropriate attire and professionally present yourself • Minimum of 5 years of commercial mechanical sheet metal experience • Minimum of 2 years supervisor experience • Basic technology skills • Ability to clearly communicate with the superintendent, and follow directions • Ability to clearly communicate with general contractors, customers, design engineers as well as other trades • Must know and understand every aspect of HVAC and ductwork installation including rectangular ductwork, round ductwork, fire dampers, smoke dampers, roof curbs, curb adapters, installing HVAC equipment, rooftop units, split systems, air handlers and condensate drains. • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal installation and repairs and the process for making and repairing sheet metal duct systems • Must understand and be able to interpret product submittal data • Must be able to read and interpret MEP plans • Must be able to understand and use a ductulator • Must have general knowledge of ductwork air flow and static pressure • Must be able to draw and lay-out sheetmetal ductwork • Must understand or and be able to reference duct SMACNA duct construction standards • General knowledge of applicable codes and practices • Knowledge of local code and standards • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal installation and repairs and the process for making and repairing sheet metal duct systems. • Minimum 5 years of commercial sheet metal experience. • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal installation and repairs and the process for making and repairing sheet metal duct systems. • Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and climbing. Constant standing, walking, reaching and gripping. Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to talk and hear. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. (maximum solo lift) and constant lifting to 25 lbs., placing this position in the very heavy physical demand classification (PDC). • Material Handling: lifting from floor level to overhead, with occasional lifting to 115 lbs. frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and constant lifting to 25 lbs., placing the position in the very heavy physical demand classification (PDC). • Required Education: High School Graduate or equivalent, work experience. • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required. • Must successfully pass a background check & drug test. Work Environment: Exposure to weather, extreme heat or cold, high noise intensity level, atmospheric conditions, exposure to electrical shock, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wet and/or humid, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working high exposure places. TITLE: Sheet Metal Technician III REPORTS TO: Foreman – Sheet Metal Job Duties / General Requirements This position has 5 or more years of experience and is considered to have mastery knowledge of sheet metal and dry side HVAC applications and design. A Sheet Metal Technician III fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs all types of HVAC related sheet metal products and equipment. The Technician III also performs equipment startups and check outs. • In-depth knowledge of dry-side commercial applications and design. • Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs all types of HVAC related sheet metal products and equipment. • Works under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems. • Documents work by completing paperwork and backup documentation. • Current journeyman license or able to obtain. • OSHA training; upholds and mentors a high standard of safety at all times. • Experience with blueprint reading and layout. • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. • May act as a lead or first-level supervisor. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Able to multi-task and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally. • Effective communicator with customers and management. • Self-starter, high energy level and possess physical stamina. • Ability to stand for long periods of time. • Involves lifting and moving heavy materials, loading and unloading vehicles, digging and refilling holes and other activities as needed.
