Preferred Summary Preferred Qualifications Position Summary An employee allocated to this class of work constructs and installs such sheetmetal fixtures as gutter, downspouts, vents, flashings, and ducts. Work assignments are received through oral and written instructions given before and during the progress of a job. Most work is performed under the supervision of appropriate supervisory personnel. Major repairs and completed jobs are subject to review through observation of results and by checking for compliance with specifications and accepted standards of workmanship. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies • Considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and practices employed in sheet metal trades, including sheet mental layout. • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. • Patch flaws and leaks in metal roofs effectively. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Solder, heliarc weld, and rivet sheet metal. • Skill in the use of tools, equipment and methods of metal roof application, repair, and sheet metal construction. Physical Demands • Work at heights and to work on flat and inclined surfaces and from ladders and scaffolds. • Work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. hot, cold, rain, etc.). • Walk stand, climb stairs, bend squat, lift work with hands above your head and work from a standard and/or extended ladder. • Lift up to 75lbs frequently throughout work shift. • Driving as needed to perform job duties. Job Profile The company is looking for a Fabricator who may specialize in certain or a few fabricating and welding processes and fabricating and welding positions, and have a narrower base of knowledge. They are required to assist with maintaining tools and equipment, and they will perform various cleanup and housekeeping activities. These employees report to a Foreman, General Foreman, or Project Manager. Educational Qualification • The prospective applicants should have either just advanced from the Fabricator Helper level or have developed skills through technical training • If they have obtained the NCCER or completed a related program through an accredited technical school. • These individuals must be able to pass IMI’s internal welding test with a 70 or above. Duties/Responsibilities • Ability to read a parts list and determine if all required parts are present. • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy based on quantifiable information. • Accurately apply intermediate mathematical skills, including measuring, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversion of fractions and decimals. • Develop layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal. • Fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment from various materials including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. • Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of various metals. • Knowledge of the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding metals. • Lays out, fits, and assembles the formed components to assemble structural components, such as machinery frames, ovens, tanks, pressure vessels, catwalks, and grating. • Operate soldering and welding equipment including MIG, TIG, stick welder, and torches. • Read blueprints, sketches, technical shop manuals, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as saws, grinders, brakes, drills, rolls, and shears. • Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications, calipers, micrometers, squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
