Job title: Plumber – Maintenance Job Summary: The Plumber maintains, assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of HVAC systems, water, gas, air and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned): • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe. • Locates and marks the position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors. • Assist in cutting openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. • Cuts and threads pipe. • Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand. • Maintains, repairs. assembles and installs plumbing systems or components such as but not limited to, valves, pipe fittings, pumps, tanks, backflow preventers, hot water heaters, drains, flow sensors, gauges, bearings and seals, steam traps irrigation systems, pipe hangers, saddles, rods, compressed air pipes, etc. Such items are generally composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. • Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joint. • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. • Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains, and may weld holding fixtures to steel structural members. • Installs, repairs, and inspects steam pipes and traps, valves, condensate pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, etc. • Performs minor demolitions and removal of obsolete and unused piping as requested. • Performs minor installations or repairs of insulation on pipes and equipment as assigned. • Determines and installs proper signage and tags for plumbing infrastructure, i.e. valves, directional flow, contents, etc. • Monitors chemical treatments in heating hot water and chilled water systems and reports deficiencies when necessary. • Inspect and certify backflow preventers. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one-year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience • Minimum one (1) to three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman plumber • Plumber shall possess a valid Plumbing Journeyman’s license and experience in medical research commercial service • Valid driver’s license • All state or federal license requirements; or any licenses or certificates that may be required by the contract in which the employee is working. • Must be able to pass a local background check and have the ability to obtain and maintain NAC/LAC clearance after hire Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
