Desired: • Locksmithing experience. • Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plumbing systems, including commodes, sinks, showers, urinals, valves, piping, pools, and supply and drainage systems; • Assists in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical kitchen and laundry equipment, including washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, grills, garbage disposals, coffee pots, toasters, deep fryers, mixers, can openers, ranges, ovens, food carts, furniture, and cleaning equipment; • Performs carpentry and minor construction work during building remodeling and repair, including but not limited to framing, installing sheetrock and paneling, painting, and replacing doors and windows; • Assists with repairs to HVAC/evaporative cooler systems, as assigned; • Assists with the troubleshooting and repair of electrical and manual door locks and mechanisms; diagnosing problems and performing miscellaneous building repairs, including concrete work and roof patching; • Orders parts and supplies needed to complete repairs; • Operates a variety of office equipment, including telephone and computer, using standard MS Office software such as Word and Excel, plus email; • May assist the Manager in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to division operations; • Performs Lockout/Tagout procedures when necessary; promptly reports the matter to the Division Manager; • Reports and/or corrects unsafe working conditions; • Maintains a clean work area and performs general custodial duties; • With proper certifications, operates a forklift and various mobile elevated work platforms, including but not limited to aerial lifts, boom lifts, and/or scissor lifts; • With proper certification, may perform duties associated with fall protection, climbing safety, and rescue (tower climbing and/or providing support to climbers); • With proper certification, assists in traffic control on work sites; • With proper certification, may perform tasks related to traffic signals including the repair and maintenance of control boxes; • Safely operates a motor vehicle; with proper licensing, may operate commercial vehicles; • Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills; • Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and • Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority. OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES • Must obtain and maintain license(s) and/or certification(s) necessary to perform Essential Duties effectively and safely; • May provide guidance to less experienced personnel; • Occasional non-traditional work hours will be necessary outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays for emergencies or stand-by duties; • May be asked to support other departments with personnel, equipment, or training as part of the City "team" effort; • Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the performance of duties; and • Performs such other duties as may be assigned. Ability to Learn: • Job-related O.S.H.A requirements; • The Division’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the safe and effective use of chemicals according to Safety Data Sheets (SDSs); • City of Alamogordo Ordinances, Citywide and Departmental Policies and Procedures, and any applicable laws regulated by an outside authority; • Regulations and requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to facility accessibility; • Operation of a forklift and various mobile elevated work platforms pursuant to OSHA standards; • Proper traffic control compliance using the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (M.U.T.C.D.) standards to ensure employee safety with equal considerations for public safety and convenience; • Fall protection, climbing safety, and rescue; • Repair and maintenance of traffic signals and control boxes; • D.O.T. Regulations for Rights-of-Way; and • New Mexico Motor Vehicle Code. • Work is typically performed both indoors and outdoors and may be subject to inclement weather conditions; • Daily physical labor that includes extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy objects; • May be subject to repetitive motion such as painting, digging, typing, and driving; • Lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; the lifting of any object greater than fifty (50) pounds by a single individual is prohibited. Lifting objects, materials, or equipment weighing more than fifty (50) pounds requires the buddy system or the use of devices designed to assist with lifting or moving. Proper lifting techniques shall be used when lifting items of any weight; • The noise level in the indoor work environment is usually quiet; outdoors is moderate to loud; • May be exposed to hazardous traffic conditions as well as hazardous chemicals, contaminants, and toxins; • Will work near gas lines, meters, and other utilities, including electricity; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards; • Work will be performed near moving mechanical parts; and possibly in high or precarious places; • Hazards include exposure to insects, rodents, snakes, and other wildlife typical of the southwest; • Terrain may be uneven or undeveloped; and • Required to wear a hard hat and safety vest while working outdoors when outside of the service truck and any other personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job assignments, including protective footwear marked by the manufacturer, with a minimum standard of M/F I/75/C75, 6" ankle height work boots, per current ASTM F2413 standard.
