Plumber Apprentice

Position DetailsPosition Information Position Plumber Apprentice Full Time/Part Time Full Time Job Type Regular Position Summary We are looking for a dedicated plumber apprentice to assist our licensed Plumber while improving their own skills. Under general supervision from the supervisor, performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems. The responsibilities of a Plumber Apprentice include assembling pipes, cleaning the water supply, handling tools, and cleaning job sites. The Plumber Apprentice can expect to assist in complex jobs and handle smaller jobs on their own.Successful plumber apprentice will be well-organized, detail-oriented, have good customer service skills, be able and willing to follow instructions, and be prepared to sporadically travel to the university's centers in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque to complete work as needed. Scheduled work hours may be subject to change based on the operational needs of New Mexico Highlands University(NMHU). This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement upon completion of probationary period.Duties and Responsibilities Repairs water distribution piping and waste water piping, including steam and hot water systems.Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing systems, including exercising valves.Installs new pipes to accommodate system expansion or modification.Assists Licensed Plumber in the completion of licensed plumbing work.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.Must have knowledge of various plumbing and mechanical systems including water, sewer, air and vacuum equipment and distribution.Plans work; estimates job costs, and selects materials.Surveys buildings to determine repairs needed and develops schedules for completion.Replaces fixtures as needed.Responds and completes work orders on a timely manner.Follows all applicable local, state and federal codes and statutes in the field. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, and performs a variety of manual tasks, as required.Performs minor carpentry work after conducting plumbing repairs.Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Maintains regular work attendance.Responds to all phone calls 24/7/365. Minimum Job Requirements High school diploma or GED or 5 years plumbing experience.At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified;Willingness to obtain a Journeyman license through NM RLD within 2 years of being hiredMust possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's license.Preferred QualificationsSpecial Conditions for Eligibility Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's license.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to understand and follow specific verbal and written instructions and procedures.Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
