POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to determine that holes will not cause structural weakness • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine • Thread pipe using threading machine • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including: brass, copper, lead, glass and plastic • Join pipe by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints • Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers • Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including: compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping • Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks • Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members • May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice • Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent Qualifications EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: • 4 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience • High school diploma or GED Certification (preferred) • Applicable Pipefitter training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body (preferred) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations. • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors. • Set a personal example of safe behavior. • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals • Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards • Other may duties may be assigned • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of their team and your supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions. • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks. • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals. • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions. • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.). • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas. • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights. • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings. • Keep good balance and work at heights. • See well (either naturally or with correction). • Hear well (either naturally or with correction.) • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet. In this position you will be responsible for planning and installing all piping systems for our construction project/sites as assigned. You should have ample experience in welding, joining, and installing a variety of piping systems, as well as installing manual and electric safety valves. Job Duties: • Configure pipe systems blueprint and plan piping systems layouts. • Ensure all steam, water, chemicals, or other liquids are turned off before working on the piping system. • Precisely cut, bend, and weld metals such as carbon and stainless steel. • Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials from pipes as needed. • Install piping or tubing segments securely with welding or other equipment. • Thread, weld, solder piping together. • Consult with job site management for hole placements in walls and bulkheads. • Ensure pipe sizes, hangers, supports, and joint needs for accurate flow. • Cut and alter the piping to ensure the correct sizes. • Perform trial runs and tests on pipe systems. • Repair and reinforce broken, cracked, or inadequate systems or pipes. Skills/Qualifications: • Three years’ experience as a pipefitter or pipefitter apprenticeship preferred. • High school degree or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeship required. • Must meet all state license requirements. • Accurate and precise attention to detail. • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations regarding piping systems • OSHA 10 preferred. • Manufacturing, pipeline, and refining environment • Fit and move in confined spaces including tanks and vessels. • Exposure to noise above 85 decibels and intense odors • You must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment. • Must be 18 years of age or older. • Working outside most of the time with potential exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. • Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to both get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights). • Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1-50 pounds, 50% of the time monthly for required tasks. • Walking on uneven terrain, with an average of two miles per day. • Use of respirator if position requires. • Potential or periodic amounts of time for the following: • Sit, stoop, crawl, stand, and kneel. • If driving is required, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability will be required.
