Pipefitter Facilities Management (FM) at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Pipefitter. This role will be fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and related equipment for high pressure steam distribution, heating (direct and indirect), domestic hot water conversion, food service, lab steam, humidification, and air conditioning. This position also requires a basic knowledge of domestic cold and hot water distribution, drain waste venting systems, gas piping, main sewage and common drainage to support plumbing related work. Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Steam Systems & Plumbing Related Support • Perform work on steam systems by trouble shooting, selecting, installing, repairing and testing piping systems. This includes cutting, threading, brazing and soldering pipe, valves, regulators and pumps as needed. • Be responsible for providing plumbing duties such as assisting with hot water heaters, expansion tanks, and active leaks. After-Hours Emergencies • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. Work past shift to complete work if emergencies arise. Work scheduled overtime during down times at University. Communication • Communicate with Pipe Trades Shop Supervisor, building proctors, managers and customers so all are aware of status on work orders, work requests and projects. Preventive Maintenance • Perform preventive maintenance functions by inspecting utility tunnels and mechanical rooms for leaks and equipment failure, and service equipment on prescribed schedule. • Perform daily paperwork to ensure work orders are filled out and closed. Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations in a timely manner. What You Should Know We are hiring for two Pipefitter positions These in-person positions anticipated work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024. What We Require Three years of increasingly responsible pipe and/or mechanical experience related to the work assignment OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to three (3) years.
