Job Title: Welder Job Description As a Welder, you will utilize a cutting torch and manual cutting techniques to modify, remove, and prepare materials for welding. You will safely operate a welding torch to complete barge repairs and rig various materials to prepare for welding. You must be able to weld in horizontal, flat, vertical, and overhead positions. Your root pass must be even and consistent with no porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration. Familiarity with FCAW and SMAW welding processes, as well as arc gouging, is essential. You should be comfortable assisting with other duties on the worksite, such as mechanical and labor type work. Responsibilities • Utilize cutting torch and manual cutting techniques for material preparation. • Safely operate welding torch to complete barge repairs. • Rig various materials for welding preparation. • Perform welding in horizontal, flat, vertical, and overhead positions. • Ensure root pass is even and consistent, avoiding porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration. • Employ FCAW and SMAW welding processes and arc gouging. • Assist with mechanical and labor duties as needed on the worksite. Essential Skills • Experience with flux core, blueprint reading, stainless steel fabrication, arc gouging, grinding. • Proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and wire welding. • Capability to weld water-tight welds and bulkhead partitions. • Experience with 6011 stick welding, 7018 stick welding, Mig wire welding. • Ability to perform open root welding, carbon & stainless, and flux core. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Familiarity with typical welding rods/wire: 6011, 7018, 7024, 308 Stainless. • Knowledge of .072 flux core wire with suitcase welder, fitting, Mig, Tig, grinding, tape measure, fitter, and shipbuilding. The standard work week is 40 hours, but overtime can be expected at any time. There are openings for both day and night shifts, with typical hours being 6am-2:30pm for days and 2:30pm-10am for nights. During the peak season of January-August, 12-hour shifts from 6am-6pm may be required. Contractors must have their own PPE, including a hard hat, steel toe safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, and welding hood. The work environment involves indoor and outdoor conditions, and you must be able to lift 75+ lbs and crawl in confined spaces. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Paducah, Kentucky. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
