Renewable Senior Engineer

Description The Opportunity Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Renewables Electrical Senior Engineer. In this role, you will act as a project lead on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and or wind projects. You will serve as a technical leader, applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complex renewable energy projects. This role will be a strategic contributor to the growth of our Renewables Lifeline Sector. Qualified candidates will be considered to work remote from any location in the US, or if the candidate chooses, may work from any of Ulteig's existing office locations. What You'll Do • Oversee and direct the design process for electrical systems in wind and battery energy storage projects, including creating physical layouts, one-line diagrams, grounding, Bills of Materials, and determining cable sizes. Additionally, provide leadership and guidance to team members and conduct thorough reviews of their designs. • Serve as the technical lead on projects, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and clients to ensure technical excellence and project success. • Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and grounding analysis. • Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, inverters, and batteries. • Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, including field inspections and troubleshooting. • Conduct technical reviews and enforce quality control to maintain high standards in design and implementation. • Provide technical guidance during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure the design intent is achieved in the field. • Research new technologies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project performance and efficiency. • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC). • Participate in client meetings, present technical information clearly, and support proposal development with technical input. What We Expect from You • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required. ABET-accredited program or equivalent required • PE or P. Eng. license required. • 10+ years of experience preferred in renewable energy, power systems, or a related industry. • Experience with engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, PSCAD, CYME, AutoCAD, or similar. • Experience leading projects and teams. • Strong knowledge of wind energy systems and battery energy storage systems and technologies. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. • Ability to perform AC & DC studies using electrical modelling software.
