Plumbing Business Unit Manager

You’ll set the tone for customer care, coach techs toward mastery, and ensure every job aligns with Alabama Plumbing Code and Health Department requirements—documented cleanly in ServiceTitan. Every Day • Lead the morning huddle: staffing, routing, safety focus, quick training, KPI call-outs. • Partner with Dispatch to balance workloads, boost first-time-fix, and cut windshield time. • Audit completed jobs remotely/in person; recover any at-risk customer experience. • Close the loop on escalations and call-backs the same day with coaching to the team. • Validate ServiceTitan entries: notes, photos, permits, timecards, and POs. • Sharpen sales/communication: options sheets, memberships, guarantees, financing. • Spot-check trucks for cleanliness, stock, PPE; approve replenishment. • End-of-day sync: hot items, tomorrow’s plan, and support needs. Each Week • Rotate ride-alongs to assess safety, technical skill, and customer experience. • Host the tech meeting: KPIs, kudos, code updates, pricebook/product changes, safety talk. • Review the scorecard: revenue, GP/GP%, first-time-fix, average ticket, memberships, reviews, call-backs. • Clean/approve timecards; verify job costing and margins in ServiceTitan. • Deliver a focused training block (hands-on technical or soft skills). • Inspect and document service vehicles (stock, tools, calibration, presentation). • Manage rotating on-call coverage; make after-hours decisions for your unit. • Build the pipeline: interview candidates; schedule skills checks/ride-alongs. Each Month • 1:1 check-ins and performance reviews; update development plans. • Safety: toolbox talk + scenario drill; refresh JHAs and near-miss log. • Quality audit of 10–15 closed jobs: code, documentation, pricing, warranty risk. • Update training calendar: onboarding, cross-training, CEUs/certifications. • Refresh SOPs/pricebook (as needed): images, options, warranties, member pricing. • PM on equipment/assets (jetters, cameras, locators, torches) with logs current. • Listen to the customer voice (surveys/reviews) and launch one improvement action. • Drive membership growth: track churn/retention; run targeted renewals/upgrades. Key Focus Areas • Process Discipline: Follow the playbook from first contact through closeout—no shortcuts. • Agreements/Memberships: Hit renewal and upgrade targets; deliver promised service cadence. • Customer Recovery: Own escalations; proactive follow-through until fully resolved. • Quality Assurance: Code compliance, documented QA, consistent craftsmanship. • People Development: Certify techs on tools, safety, and communication; build a learning culture. • Leadership: Set clear goals, coach often, uphold a high bar with empathy. • On-Call Leadership: Lead after-hours operations on a rotation. • Compliance: Alabama Plumbing Code, Health Department, permits, and OSHA. • Continuous Improvement: Partner with Ops to roll out process/tech that improves speed and margin.
