Plumbing-Apprentice

Position Type: Facilities/Custodial/Facilities Date Posted: 6/17/2025 Location: Facilities Date Available: 07/01/2025Primary Purpose: Under general supervision assist the Supervisor, Lead and assigned journeyman in completing Apprentice level work in the installation, repair, remodel, and maintenance of buildings as related to the Plumbing trade. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: • Maintain, repair, and install plumbing and related systems and components as assigned • Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Promptly report accidents on the job to the Supervisor and/or office • Support Board and Administrative policies and decisions • Work with and become knowledgeable in related systems such as irrigation, gas distribution, hydraulic systems, and components. Not limited to: Domestic water, effluent water, sewer, storm drainage and other similar systems • Work with iPads and other technology items, tools, and programs as part of work in the Plumbing Shop • Report facility discrepancies and problems as needed for repair in a timely manner • Coordinate as needed with campuses to assure maintenance work does not interfere with school activities or schedules • Respond to emergency call outs after hours as required. Follow up with Supervisor or Maintenance Directors on work done • Assist Shop Supervisors and Journeyman in coordination work to be done by outside vendors or contractors • Always keep all equipment and tools clean and in good condition for use • Keep all work areas clean.; Thorough clean up should be done at the end of all completed work and or at the end of each workday • Process completed work orders and/or reports as needed and order materials to complete work assigned. • Communicate effectively to eliminate any problems, surprises, or misunderstandings • Report vandalisms or emergency problems immediately to Directors/Supervisors and appropriate Administrative personnel • All other duties assigned in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation; Work could include working with other shops and trades as needed JOB QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or equivalency • Hold a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain a good driving record • Pursue professional growth activities to continue development in the Plumbing trade. Must be willing to gain knowledge of codes and standards pertaining to the installation of Plumbing systems • One to two years' experience under a Master Plumber and one to two years' experience in commercial plumbing work desired but not required • Continue to learn and develop towards valid Journey Plumbing License • Self-starter, high initiative and require little supervision. Licensed / Journeyman and Apprentice Plumber – Commercial Plan & Spec Project

Job Title: Journeyman Plumber / Plumbing Apprentice (Texas) Department: Plumbing Operations Reports To: Plumbing Supervisor / Project Manager / Master Plumber Location: Abilene, Texas Position Summary: This role supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in accordance with Texas state laws and plumbing codes. The Journeyman Plumber will independently handle a variety of plumbing projects with minimal supervision, while the Plumbing Apprentice will assist under the supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber as they work toward licensing. I. Journeyman Plumber Key Responsibilities: • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems (water supply, waste, vent, gas lines, etc.) in compliance with the Texas Plumbing License Law and the Uniform Plumbing Code or IPC as applicable. • Interpret blueprints and building specifications to map out plumbing systems and layouts. • Collaborate with contractors, supervisors, and inspectors to ensure project success. • Supervise apprentices and provide on-the-job training. • Perform testing and inspections of systems using appropriate tools and methods. • Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to OSHA safety standards. Qualifications: • Current Texas Journeyman Plumber License issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE). • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. • Minimum 4 years of verifiable plumbing experience. • Strong knowledge of Texas plumbing codes and installation techniques. • Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 75lbs) and work in a variety of environments (indoors/outdoors, heights, crawlspaces). II. Plumbing Apprentice Key Responsibilities: • Assist licensed plumbers with installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems. • Carry tools, materials, and equipment to and from job sites. • Measure, cut, and prepare pipes and fittings under supervision. • Learn state plumbing codes and trade skills through hands-on training and classroom instruction. • Keep work areas clean and organized and comply with safety procedures.
