Job Title: Pipe Fitter Department: Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly Position Summary The Pipe Fitter is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems that support sawmill production operations. This role ensures safe, efficient operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, water, and process piping throughout the facility. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, industrial experience, and a commitment to safety and reliability. Key Responsibilities • Install, assemble, and maintain industrial piping systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, water, steam, and process lines. • Cut, thread, weld, and fabricate pipes to required specifications. • Inspect and diagnose leaks, blockages, wear, and failures in piping systems. • Perform preventive maintenance on piping, valves, pumps, and related equipment to minimize downtime. • Interpret and work from blueprints, isometric drawings, and P&IDs. • Coordinate with millwrights, electricians, and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues. • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental regulations. • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and maintenance activities. • Assist with shutdowns, installations, and capital project work as needed. • Operate tools and equipment such as pipe threaders, cutters, welders, lifts, and grinders. Qualifications Required • 2–4 years of industrial pipe fitting experience (sawmill, manufacturing, or similar). • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics. • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. • Ability to weld (stick or MIG) and perform pipe fabrication. • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills. • Knowledge of industrial safety practices (LOTO, confined space, hot work). • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment. Preferred • Journeyman Pipe Fitter certification or equivalent trade qualification. • Experience in the lumber or forest-products industry. • Familiarity with CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems). • Forklift and man-lift certifications. Work Environment • Industrial sawmill environment with exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and varying temperatures. • Rotating shifts or weekend work may be required depending on operational needs. Qualifications May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position. Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
