More information about this job: Overview The Pipefitter will have knowledge of test piping systems, oxygen and acetylene cutting, basic rigging, operation of pneumatic and electric tools, and leak test-tubing systems. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or a construction jobsite setting. Responsibilities • The following are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position. • Read and interpret blueprints, ISO's field installations, material takeoffs, field sketches, and understand specifications • Fabricate and install screw pipe, socket weld pipe, stainless tubing, carbon steel weld pipe, and stainless steel weld pipe • Miter and fabricate all pipe • Use beveling machine to prepare pipes/tubes for welding • Lay out for pipe penetrations • Install all sizes of piping in pipe racks • Install valves, pipe hangers, and pipe supports • Must be able to install all sizes of underground pipe • Must be able to install steam and heat tracing • Must be able to perform proper bolt up of various sizes on pipe and valve flanges • Assist other craft workers as needed Qualifications Physical • Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs. • Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs • Hand/eye coordination • Must be able to communicate (hear, comprehend, and speak) to safely perform work • Will need to be able to perform sedentary to heavy work • May operate hand and power tools (electric, gas, and pneumatic) of all types • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. • May be required to work in confined spaces • Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.) Mental • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision • Reading and writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy • Ability to use math/complete calculations • Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions • Decision making skills necessary • Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details

The Plumber/Pipefiitter Master is a fast paced highly visible advanced Journeyman position which requires superior technical knowledge of all facets of plumbing systems and related fixtures and components. 60% Repair, troubleshoot, modify and maintain utility systems including high/low pressure steam, high/low pressure condensate, sanitary sewer, compressed air, chilled water supply/return, domestic hot/cold water, stormwater, and heating water supply/return. Work skills include fabrication, installation, and repair of different piping materials including cast iron, steel, copper, plastic (pvc, pe, hdpe,etc.) to above and below ground systems. 10% Troubleshoot system blockages for sewer and drainage piping and operate high pressure water, blast cleaning equipment to restore proper flow characteristics. 10% Installs piping system from complex drawings and specifications requiring knowledge of fabrication and assembly techniques of copper, cast iron, plastic, steel materials. 10% Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on pressure regulators, pressure gauges, steam traps, safety relief valves, flow meters, thermal expansion joints, check valves and clock valves. 5% Performs multiple trade skills related to plumbing such as thermal insulation, welding, soldering, excavation, shoring and backfilling, underground pipe coatings. 5% Prepares material and purchase requisitions. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Three years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing. SPECIAL OR PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Must possess a valid Class "E" driver's license. Pre-employment drug screening and physical required. Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement67. Reports to: Foreman/Project Manager Focus Areas: Higher education, k-12, hospitals, hotels, government, other institutional campuses or facilities. JOB SUMMARY: The Pipe Fitter lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping and piping systems and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Reads studies and interprets job specifications, plans and blueprints to gain understanding of work to be done. • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials needed for each job. • Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to make sure holes cut out for pipe will not cause structural weakness. • Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers. • Cuts, grinds, threads and bends pipe according to job specifications. • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal pipe and fittings. • Joins pipe and secures to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers. • Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges. IDEAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: • A High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years as a pipe fitter with experience in commercial plumbing; or equivalent combination of education (Technical School) and experience. • Uses basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry to make calculations for work. • Ability to read and utilize Pipefitter’s Blue Book. • This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage). • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move more than 50 pounds.
