Journeyman Pipefitter

Position Summary: The Journeyman Pipefitter is responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, welding, and maintaining mechanical piping systems in accordance with plumbing codes, standards, and regulations. This position will oversee the work of apprentices to ensure the compatibility and safety of the work performed. Requirements: • 5+ years of experience as a pipefitter in process piping installation, maintenance, and repair • License (PJ-02-W), or Journeyman Pipefitter/Pipefitter - Unrestricted License (PJU). • Possess a valid Massachusetts, Journeyman Pipefitter/Pipefitter Welder - Process Piping • High school diploma or equivalent. • Knowledge of pipefitting techniques, procedures, and safety requirements. • Knowledge and understanding of general and subcontract documents, drawings, and • specifications, construction means, methods, and materials. • Knowledge of MA governing requirements, regulations, and permissions regarding process piping • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications. • Strong welding skills using TIG, MIG, and stick welding techniques. • Valid US Driver's License. Responsibilities: JOB SUMMARY The Journeyman Refrigeration is responsible for installation of refrigeration systems following customer specifications, applicable building code and proper piping practices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Provides support on construction job by piping cooler boxes and refrigeration cases, including electrical wiring as required to complete the project. • Provides the required installation of pipe hangers as directed by the foreman. • Provides construction support by welding and slip hosing copper pipes, and assists the foreman as needed on the job. • Provides support by handing cooler box coils and installing new supermarket refrigeration systems or remodeling existing supermarket refrigeration systems. • Embodies the CoolSys CARES culture (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment, Safety). • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: JOB REQUIREMENTS Education / Training • High school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes. • License as a Journeyman to meet state requirements. Work Experience / Skills • 4+ years of experience in the construction industry preferred and hands on field experience in commercial refrigeration, electrical and/or fixtures construction. • Experience in copper brazing, market remodeling. • Good driving record. • Valid driver’s license. • Knowledge of electrical systems and ability to wire installations. • Knowledge of carpentry. • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and piping of refrigeration equipment. • Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fittings, and ability to pipe refrigeration equipment. • Knowledge of and ability to read blueprints on refrigeration, electrical and plumbing. • Ability to hang evaporation coils and install overhead hangers. • Ability to use hand and power tools and good mechanical skills. • Knowledge of jobsite safety, ability to oversee work activities to ensure safe work practices and safety rule compliance. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws. • Ability to use typical business tools including E-Mail, Word, Excel, etc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work Environment This job typically operates in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service and/or construction environment with need to work at heights from ladders and/or Scissor lifts. The position regularly works near/with refrigeration/HVAC equipment that can expose the workers to extreme cold from refrigerant and high heat from brazing operations. This role routinely works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. These conditions require employees to use the correct PPE and safe work practices. Physical Demands This position is very active and requires excellent stamina to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Employees are regularly required to walk and stand for long periods, hear, drive, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, use hands and fingers, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Additional Info • Installs, repairs, maintains, and/or alters steam and plumbing systems by cleaning sewer drains; by operating power tools, welding equipment, sewer cleaning machines, hand tools, and plumbing equipment; by laying out, cutting and fitting materials for welding; by packing joints, valves, and pumps; by cutting and threading pipes; by caulking and packing lead joints, valves and pumps; by replacing seals in water closets; by cleaning filters; by unplugging sinks, toilets, and drains; and by insulating heat tracing wires and/or piping to ensure that equipment is in proper working order and to meet agency needs. • Inspects buildings to determine need for repairs. • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, instructions or layouts to understand construction work to be done. • Schedules installation, maintenance, and/or repair work by conferring with supervisors and other department personnel to determine location of equipment and appropriate time to complete the project. • Estimates length of time, cost of materials and manpower needed by using current market rates and man-hour output to develop a work project budget. • Handles complaints from building occupants regarding assigned work and takes appropriate corrective action. • Acts as liaison with the Facilities Dept. and outside contractors.
