HOURLY RATE: $41.54 POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing the overall activities of the pipe fitting department associated with projects at or supported at the shipyard. The Department Head is responsible for the successful execution of all pipefitter work packages. The Department Head ensures all activities are carried out in accordance with established specifications, budgets, and schedules, and directs personnel assigned to the department in all phases of planning and execution of assigned production work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job's overall responsibilities.) • Lives the Vigor Values. • Hires and trains skilled craft personnel to support work across the site, properly assigning personnel based on skills, certifications, schedules, and plans. Works closely with HR to obtain and retain diverse talent, leading them to be exceptional members of Vigor, and administers corrective actions as required. • Partners with the Director of Project Management for overall pipefitter performance and P&L. • Establishes a safe work site and ensures adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements. • Ensures work quality and worker performance meet specifications, third-party regulations, and contractual requirements. • Develops and maintains a positive, inclusive work environment for all team members. • Promotes Vigor Values within leadership and workforce. • Reviews and verifies weekly production progress and reports KPIs regularly. • Coordinates with support services to ensure availability of equipment, facilities, inventory, and materials. • Manages human and material resources to meet production targets. • Works with HR on corrective actions. • Implements improvements to production processes. • Assists estimating and project teams with estimating duties. • Manages labor reporting and JHAs for multiple projects. • Ensures collaboration between departments including supply chain, QA, safety, and project management. • Complies with environmental, health, safety, and security policies. • Participates in training and development activities. • Coordinates efforts to meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives for ship repair work packages. • Supports and participates in various meetings (schedule updates, safety, lessons learned, etc.). • Provides work package status updates and recommends solutions to the Director of Production and Project Management. • Anticipates schedule slippage and plans for alternative actions, including manpower and overtime adjustments. • Works with QA to monitor TIPs and prevent open line items at contract completion. • Conducts daily onboard visits to check job and shop status. • Attends production meetings and may delegate attendance to other supervisors. • Supports union interactions and management directives. • Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with workers, supervisors, and customers. • Ensures accurate timekeeping and tool/equipment readiness. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Manages approximately 100 craft employees across multiple vessels and shops, enforcing safety policies, overseeing training, and conducting performance reviews. May oversee multiple supervisors, ensuring high standards of professional and ethical behavior, promoting cross-craft cooperation. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: Interacts with managers, coordinates scope of work with company priorities, communicates at all levels within the shipyard, and interacts with customers on vessels and in meetings. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. • Leadership and motivational skills for managing employees in a production environment. • Ability to consolidate multiple projects into a single operation. • Well-organized, detail-oriented, self-starter. • Ability to read specifications, weld certifications, blueprints, and technical publications. • Effective at managing priorities and deadlines. • Capable of handling interruptions and maintaining focus. • Ability to coordinate work across departments for efficiency. • Facilitates group decision-making, team building, and conflict resolution. • Capable of reacting and performing in emergencies. • Proficient with PC and MS Office applications. • Knowledge of budgeting, estimating, planning, scheduling, and procurement. • Familiarity with OSHA and environmental regulations. • Knowledge of quality management systems and standards. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or equivalent. • Minimum 10 years of ship repair experience, with at least 5 in a supervisory role. • Subject matter expertise in pipe disciplines, including welding and fitting. • Competent with plans, drawings, specifications, and technical data. • Experience in planning and executing ship repair packages per specifications, budgets, and procedures. • Extensive knowledge of NAVSEA, MSC, and commercial ship repair standards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with moderate to loud noise levels. Mix of office and production areas, requiring walking, climbing, entering confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overtime or weekends. Travel up to 5% as needed. Pipe fitter Job Responsibilities: • Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs carbon and stainless steel piping and other industrial processing systems, including high pressure piping, according to working drawings. • Cuts and bevels pipe utilizing a cutting torch, plasma arc or cutting machines. Must be proficient in making rolling offsets, fish mouths and the proper measurement of pipe to be fabricated. • Measures, fabricates, and fits up butt weld, socket weld, "V" grove pipe, valves, hangers, and threaded piping systems. • Operates rigid power threading equipment. • Ability to use rigging to get pipe in place. Qualifications/Requirements: • Minimum of 4 - 6 years of Journey-level experience. • Proficient in the use of cutting torches, plasma arc, cutting machines and rigid power threading equipment. • Able to read isometric drawings of piping systems and draw ISO's of field run piping and fabricate from these drawings. • Able to pass a Tig Stick 6 G pipe weld test if applying as welder. • Flux core welding experience is a plus • Prior rigging experience is a plus. • NCCER certification is a plus.
