Job Description: Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping and piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems. Functional Requirements: • Selects size and type of pipe and related material and equipment according to job specifications. • Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain those holes will not cause structural weakness. • Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers. • Cuts, threads, and bends pipe. • Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe. • Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic. • Joins pipe using threaded, caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools. • Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers. • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meter, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. • Test piping systems for leaks. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • May observe production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions. • May operate machinery to verify repair if certified to operate. • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of material and work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance of cleaning tools and equipment. • Respiratory protection is common and may be required. • Perform other duties as required. Qualification Standards: • Two (2) or more years of experience in Pipefitting. • NCCER A or A+ Certified. • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, background check, and site-specific training. • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the workplace. • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (FRC certified long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.). • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.). Physical Requirements: • Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. • Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment, and as required by the company. • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Skills and Responsibilities: Responsibilities: • Be a self-starter and able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. • Fabricate piping via various methods including cutting, threading, roll groove and bevelling of prespooled and stick built piping to blueprints, drawings, and specifications, ensuring they fit together seamlessly. • Assemble and install various fixtures, such as valves, fittings, and hangers/pipe supports, to ensure proper functionality of the piping system. • Follow quality control systems and techniques. • Interpret engineering and detailed fabrication drawings, specifications and standards to complete tasks accurately. • Ability to mark out and measure accurately. • Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and the safety of your co-workers. • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. • Maintain and care for equipment, tools, and machinery, ensuring they are in proper working condition. • Collaborate with other team members, including engineers, QA/QC inspectors, and construction management team, to achieve project goals and timelines. • Keep detailed records of work performed including, Flange Management & Fit up tags, Workpacks and Weld maps. • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to enhance skills and knowledge.
