POSITION SUMMARY: This is an entry-level position responsible for assisting the Pipe Fitter with setting coolers, bottles, running pipe, and building as well as installing bracing as per instructions on the drawings provided by engineering. Other duties include cleaning work area, restocking supplies, and furnishing the Pipe Fitter with requested materials, tools, and equipment. This role will assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation and perform required maintenance of tools and equipment as necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: may include any or all of the following. • Select type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications. • Inspect work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness. • Plan installation or repairs to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers. • Cut, thread, bend pipe, and assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic. • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic. • Connect pipes, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented joints or track welded. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers. • Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment such as pumps and cylinders. • Install and maintain systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. • Increase pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observe production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions. • Operate machinery to verify repair. • Modify programs of automated machinery, such as robots and conveyors, to change motion/speed of machine. • Train and develop to become Pipe Fitters. • Attend tool box meetings and safety meetings as scheduled and complete web base training safety training. • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition.
