Pipe Fitter - 1st Class

Description: A Pipefitter at Master Boat Builders will configure, install, fit, and maintain various piping systems, and ensure smooth operation of those systems. Duties/Responsibilities: • Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves. • Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications. • Gathers equipment and materials for the job. • Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes. • Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering. • Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems. • Complies with safety regulations and codes. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements: Required Skills/Abilities: • Ability to read schematics and blueprints. • Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Education and Experience: • Successful apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field is preferred. • At least 3 years of on the job experience pipe fitting preferably in a shipyard. Physical Requirements: • Prolonged periods standing and stretching to install and repair pipes and pipe fittings. • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. • Must possess visual acuity required to inspect piping systems and read plans or blueprints.

Pipefitter – 1st Class A pipefitter journeyman is responsible for removing, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems such as Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust etc. in accordance with work item specifications. The Pipe Fitter journeyman is also responsible for providing direction to improvers and helpers as directed by the supervisor. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of equipment and work processes used in marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting. 8. Must be able to operate and care for equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools used to accomplish assigned work. 9. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Must understand the US customary and metric measurement systems. 10. Must at have at least Three (3) years of pipefitting shipyard experience.
