General Purpose: Layout, fabricate, assembles, installs and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems. Responsibilities & Duties • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to determine that holes will not cause structural weakness • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction worker • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine • Thread pipe using threading machine • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine • Assemble and install a variety of metals and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including; brass, copper, lead, fiberglass, steel, plastic, etc. • Join pipe by means of thread, caulking, welding, solder, braze, fuse or cemented joints • Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers • Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including; compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks • Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members • Maintain a professional appearance • Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent Required Education • High school diploma or equivalent GED. Required Experience • Minimum of 6 months experience, one year certificate from a technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experience Required Skills/Licenses/Certifications • Valid driver s license to operate motor vehicles. • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals • Add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10 s and 100 s, ability to perform these operations using unit weight measurements and volumes. • Ability to calculate rate, ratios and percentages • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form • Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards Supervisory Responsibility • None Physical Demands & Working Conditions The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
