Marine Pipefitter We are seeking an experienced Shipyard Pipefitter with five or more years of experience in marine, commercial nuclear, or petro/chemical industries. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading and interpreting ship piping drawings and fitting various types of piping, including carbon steel, CRES, and copper nickel. Responsibilities • Read and interpret ship piping drawings. • Fit carbon steel, CRES, and copper nickel piping. • End prep piping by hand or with a Portsmouth Machine. • Install pipe hangers. • Read a ruler using inches and tenths. • Prep and fit-up backing rings. • Clean cut/break pipe with a grinder. • Hand prep V bevels. • Fabricate various details and assemblies from drawings. • Bend pipe from templates and use a hand bender. • Fit welded sockets. • Fit brazed joints with/without inserts. Position Summary Read and interpret blueprints and sketches to repair, modify, install and dismantle various pipes and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Involves heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery. Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, high level of critical thinking/reading comprehension, and frequent travel/overtime are required. Duties And Responsibilities • Requires no supervision/oversight, has experience in the trade qualifications, and can perform all work required as a Pipefitter and will provide mentoring to junior craftsman. • Must be able to understand and perform the set up, alignment, and operation of most portable tools and hand tools used in the trade. • In depth knowledge and understanding of most shipboard piping systems (repair/ installation practices, procedures, pipe bending, alignments and troubleshooting) and blue print reading. • Layout material prior to performing pipe bending operations and machine parts to achieve proper joint design as per Technical Work Documents. • Fabricate and install fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during the welding process. • Produces quality piping assemblies and is proficient in brazing. Qualifications • High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses or technical school graduate; and/or military and/or civilian experience with marine piping systems in a repair department or shipyard. • Must have the ability to obtain government base access. • Knowledge and practical skills tests required. • Deep Submergence Systems (SOC MCD A, B, and C), SUBSAFE Qualification. • Must be able to obtain a Secret/Confidential security clearance. • Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
