Position Summary The Pipefitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems used in commercial mechanical construction projects. This includes HVAC, chilled water, heating hot water, and process piping. The role requires precision, safety, and the ability to work from drawings and specifications in a fast‑paced environment. Key Responsibilities • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, and specifications. • Measure, cut, thread, groove, and bend pipe using hand and power tools. • Layout and install carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and/or PVC piping systems. • Fit and align pipe accurately before welding or mechanical joining. • Use supports, hangers, and restraints according to code and specifications. • Assist welders by prepping pipe and holding alignment during welding. • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic testing on piping systems. • Ensure quality workmanship and compliance with all applicable codes. • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including use of PPE. • Communicate with supervisors and other trades to coordinate installation. • Keep tools and equipment in proper working condition. Qualifications • 3+ years of experience as a pipefitter in commercial or industrial mechanical construction. • Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs. • Proficient in measuring, cutting, fitting, and joining various piping materials. • Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, hydronic, process piping). • Strong understanding of OSHA safety practices and procedures. • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in tight spaces or at heights. • Basic math and layout skills. • OSHA 10 certification preferred. • Experience on commercial projects such as schools, hospitals, or data centers. • NCCER, UA, or other pipefitter certification a plus. • Experience working alongside welders and inspectors for code compliance. Lays out and marks position of pipe and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using ruler, level, square and laser. • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and fittings using hand and power tools. Installs sleeves and leave outs for roof and wall penetrations. Helps excavate, backfill and tamp ditches using shovels, picks and tampers.
