Lead welder. Role Description This is a full-time on-site role for a Pipefitter located in Anaheim, CA. The Pipefitter will be responsible for installing, assembling, and maintaining various types of piping systems. Day-to-day tasks include cutting, threading, and bending pipes, fitting and securing pipes, and testing systems for leaks. The role also involves working with blueprints and specifications, performing welding tasks, and ensuring all systems meet safety standards. The Apprentice Maintenance Pipefitter is the entry-level classification where incumbents participate in a three-year formal apprenticeship program to become a journey-level Maintenance Pipefitter within our department. Under close supervision, the Apprentice Maintenance Pipefitter assists in and learns the skills of a Maintenance Pipefitter through on-the-job training and supplementary education in maintenance and construction in the water utility. The formal apprenticeship includes on-the-job training, weekend and evening classes, and coursework. Responsibilities of the Apprentice Maintenance Pipefitter include: • Driving, stocking, maintaining trucks, and operating equipment • Responding to emergency maintenance calls • Performing maintenance excavation, backfilling, and installation of new mains and appurtenances • Installing main taps, laterals, fire hydrants, and maintaining crew truck and equipment • Performing maintenance and installation of small services, meters, and appurtenances • Operating, plotting, and locating water system valves • Operating heavy equipment such as backhoes and adhering to traffic control procedures The Maintenance Pipefitter performs a range of duties including: • Maintenance and construction in the installation, chlorination, and pressure testing of new mains • Installation and maintenance of fire hydrants, services, meters, and appurtenances • Operating and maintaining water system valves • Driving, stocking, and maintaining trucks, responding to emergency calls • Mixing concrete, building forms, pouring, and finishing concrete as required Requirements for the positions are as follows: • Apprentice Maintenance Pipefitter: Must have basic knowledge of pipefitting, possess a valid Class A California Driver's License with Tank Endorsement within twelve months of appointment, and obtain a Distribution Operator Grade II Certificate by program completion. • Maintenance Pipefitter: Requires experience as a journey-level Maintenance Pipefitter or successful completion of the apprentice program, knowledge of pipeline installation and repair methods, and possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License with tanker endorsement and Grade II Water Distribution Certificate.
