See More Details >>Sheet Metal Estimator The Sheet Metal Estimator is responsible for assisting in the successful qualification and estimating of construction projects. This individual will be tasked to identify and coordinate standards to achieve consistent and reliable project cost forecasting from Mecco leadership, project, field personnel and both material and subcontractor partners. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned. • Utilizes plans, specifications and knowledge of construction industry to analyze project needs and compiles detailed cost estimates. • Responsible for the take-off and pricing of materials to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc. • Identifies possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects. • Creates detailed cost estimates including controller sizing charts, electrical estimates, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, points list, and system riser/sketches and cartoons. • Visits existing building sites to determine project scope as required. • Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards. • Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors. • Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials/services. • Coordinates equipment discounts with vendors. • Documents work by maintaining files for each job. • Uses QuoteSoft estimating software to develop cost assemblies and standards to promote consistency. • Develops and maintains business relationships that support MECCO success with corresponding support firms • Communicates estimating needs to internal and external customers in a timely manner. • Participates in job turnover meetings after project award. • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required. • Perform other duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS • 7+ years of experience working in the HVAC field, specifically Sheetmetal and/or piping. • Estimating background is preferred, but not required • Ability to read all levels of construction documents and drawings • Ability to work fully on-site in Columbia, MD • Must be familiar with most types of HVAC equipment, material, labor tasks, etc • The ability to perform on-site survey of projects, prior to bidding, if required • High proficiency in data entry, analysis, and computer literacy • QuoteSoft or Quote Express software experience preferred • Ability to travel within a defined region at least 10% of the time PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
