Maintenance Associate - Plumber

Description Vincennes University has an opening for a Plumbing Maintenance Associate. The Associate is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal on the main campus and at remote locations as needed. Duties and Responsibilities • Communications - Must have excellent verbal communication skills and be able to work independently and with other Physical Plant personnel. • Installation of new equipment and fixtures, plumbing, pipe-fitting. • Repair and replacement of pumps, air compressors, steam-hot water and gas heaters, coils, etc • Maintenance and repair of steam lines, swimming pool equipment, irrigation systems, boilers, water softeners, cooling towers, etc. • Repair and/or replacement of all plumbing fixtures including: toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, water lines, sewer lines, and valves. • Responds to calls/pages on weekends, holidays, and after hours. • Works independently and with other Physical Plant personnel installing and maintaining equipment. • Helps with all University Events. • Other duties, within the Physical Plant as assigned. Required and Preferred Qualifications • **Journeyman’s license preferred • Interpret and work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints; interpret schematics and follow both verbal and written instructions. • Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment relative to lockout/tagout, confined space, scaffolds, etc. • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, faculty and staff, students, contractors, and the general public. • Experienced and comfortable working in heights, on scaffolding, ladders, roof tops, and lifts. • With appropriate training, ability to work in confined spaces. • Able to respond to emergency situations and will be required to perform building checks during weekends/holidays on a rotation basis, and carrying/responding to pager calls. • Skilled in safe operation and use of tools, chemicals, materials, and equipment of the Plumbing trade. • Provide instruction to assistants and assist with training of new co-workers. Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Standing, bending, climbing, carrying, reaching, handling, and use of fingers 50% or more of the work day. • Regular attendance is required for this position. Actual schedule contingent upon the needs of the Department and Vincennes University. • Works both indoors and outdoors, occasionally under inclement weather conditions. • Works in close proximity to electrical/HVAC equipment. • Frequently exerting 10-50 pounds of force.
