Duties: Under the supervision of the Maintenance and Repair Foreman, the Maintenance & Repair - Plumber Crew Leader will be responsible for: • In the absence of the Foreman, the Plumber Crew Leader is to be in charge of planning work and supervising workmen assigned. • Maintain and repair facilities that require plumbing, electrical, or other specialties as directed. • Perform the repair and installation of plumbing, electrical equipment, building foundations, and other construction. Prepare estimates of material and labor costs as directed. • Supervise and perform the repair and installation of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures. • Keep accurate records of all labor and materials costs of work performed. • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the work area and assigned vehicle. • Requisition supplies and equipment as required. • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Park District's safety program. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Pay Scale: Apprentice Rate: $25.80 per hour; After 3 months, base pay: $32.25 per hour. Maximum pay rate is $34.25 per hour. Essential Functions: • Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat, and bend at the waist and knees. • Ability to manipulate tools as needed to complete job duties. • Ability to operate vibratory tools as needed to complete job duties. • Ability to balance on ladders and uneven surfaces. • Ability to climb ladders and stairs. • Ability to distinguish colors relative to electrical wiring. • Ability to detect noxious odors relative to job duties. • Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Education: A high school diploma required. Experience: Two years experience in construction or maintenance repair work. Work experience with plumbing, irrigation, and electrical systems is required. Licensure: Must maintain a valid Illinois Department of Health State Plumbing License. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Install, maintain, and repair water supply lines, drainage systems, fixtures, and appliances • Read and interpret blueprints, building codes, and schematics • Inspect plumbing systems to identify and repair issues related to leaks, clogs, or inefficiencies • Cut, assemble, and install pipes and fittings using hand and power tools • Test plumbing systems for leaks and other problems • Collaborate with other construction professionals such as electricians, HVAC technicians, and general contractors • Maintain compliance with all Illinois Plumbing Code and local ordinances • Complete work orders, service reports, and documentation as required • Respond to emergency calls for plumbing issues outside regular business hours, as needed • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE. Requirements: • Valid Illinois Plumber License issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) • High school diploma or equivalent • Completion of a state-approved apprenticeship program • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in the plumbing trade • Valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record Preferred Qualifications: • OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification • Experience with commercial or industrial plumbing systems • Backflow Prevention Device Tester certification (optional but preferred) Physical Requirements: • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces • Able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions • Able to work prolonged periods on scaffolding or ladder • Required to be on-call or respond to after-hours emergencies as scheduled. Additional Qualifying Factors: As a condition of employment, it may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results (Background screening by the Government & fingerprinting). Security Clearance: It is mandatory that all Contractor personnel working onsite at federal facilities meet federal government security clearance standards.
