Primary Function: Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems, on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings. Basic Duties and Responsibilities: • Read and understand contract plans/specifications and shop drawings. • Perform layout, cut, bolt-up and prep carbon/stainless steel pipe up to 30" in diameter ahead of welders. • Monitor consumable supply and restock as needed • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job descriptions. • Inspects work sites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness. • Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers. Cuts pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. • Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic. Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers. • Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks. Requirements: • US Citizen and a clean record due to DoD requirements. • Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy. • Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. • Physically, workers must be able to see well. • Coordinate the movements eyes, hands and fingers; Use hands, arms, and fingers fully. • Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding. • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required and lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds and occasionally more. • Foreman experience a plus. • Rigging, forklift, scissor lift and fall protection certifications a plus.
