Midstate Manufacturing Job Description PAY COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE Job Title: Engine Packaging / Fabrications Engineer Department: Engine Packaging Department Reports To: Engine Packaging Division Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Fabrication engineering is the process of manufacturing metal-based structures from raw materials using techniques such as cutting, forming, shearing and welding. A person employed in making mechanical drawings. SUMMARY Design, organize, and prepare clear, complete and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or OEM data by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Uses AutoCAD, Inventor 3D, shop and related design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks. Creates proposal and manufacturing 2D drawings and 3D models, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project. Utilizes knowledge of various fabrication machines and equipment, manufacturing processes, manufacturer or industry standard specifications, engineering practices, mathematics, fabricated parts materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings. Uses customer supplied 2D prints provided in .tif, .pdf and .dwg formats to process parts for manufacturing purposes. Uses customer supplied 3D models provided in .stp file format to process parts for manufacturing purposes. Develops fixtures and templates to assist with the fabrication and inspection of fabricated parts. Understands and can create BOM for fabricated parts, sub-level groups and top-level groups or products. Able to understand the application and installation of fabricated parts on industrial market-based products such as off highway mining trucks, locomotive / rail, agricultural and diesel engine power. Controls mechanical engineering aspects of projects integrating sales and shop requirements. Assists with development of prototype and production based fabricated parts in addition to shop fabrication and installation direction as required. Uses machine specific software to program parts for manufacturing processes such as laser, laser inspection, CNC punch, water jet and plasma cutting. Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities or methods. Determines feasibility of design considering costs, available space, schedules, Company planning and other technical and economic factors. Controls prints, filing, and revision levels to Company standards. Able to understand manufacturing system data that relates to engineering such as quotes, routers, work orders, BOM’s and engineering change levels. Preferred to have the ability to – - Develop and design electrical power generation and industrial engine products, systems and packages integrating electrical controls, both AC and DC systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. - Understand the application and installation of electrical power generation and industrial engines. - Participate in the testing of engine packages to assure design meets code criteria and quality standards. Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, installation and operational testing conform to functional specifications, customer requirements, NEC, NFPA, or other related codes as required. S.) or equivalent from four-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to effectively speak, read and write in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and customers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Basic computer skills – Outlook email, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must have 2D AutoCAD and 3D skills to develop component or composite drawings in detail for shop construction or customer submittals. Must have knowledge of weld symbols and basic manufacturing specifications. Must have sheet metal development experience in both formed and flat views. Must be able to utilize customer supplied computer drawings and technical data system. Must be able to work from sketches or shop markups. Creativity and initiative to problem solve technical application problems or generate new products from concept to final production either individually or as a member of a team. Must be able to provide sales support, if needed, discussing and assembling project information with customers and vendors with detail and accuracy. Must be organized and able to recall and verify technical data or drawings in a professional and timely fashion. Must be able to track project drawing revisions and changes. Must be able to interpret sales quotations and design product to meet product labor/material budget figures. Must be proficient in use of manufacturing software. Occasional travel may be required. Preferred to have Engine Packaging background as noted below – - Have knowledge of simple general electrical schematics and diagrams. - Basic knowledge of engine power generation background with basic knowledge of engine functions and requirements, i.e. airflow and effects, exhaust systems, basic engine operation, vibration and torsional effects. Acoustical knowledge, although not required, would be helpful. - Electrical A.C. & D.C. circuit knowledge helpful but not required. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Risk of electrical shock is possible and employee may be exposed to voltages from 120v single phase up to utility grade 13,800v 3-phase. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will be exposed to shop conditions during installation, direction/supervision of project.
