About the position The Plumber/Pipefitter position at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) involves performing skilled plumbing and pipefitting work under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. This role encompasses the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and plumbing systems, and can be filled by either a Master or Journeyman plumber. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service and ensuring the highest quality of work. All plumbers in this role are expected to act as department leaders, mentoring apprentice personnel and providing expertise in troubleshooting complex plumbing issues. UNH Facilities operates 24/7/365, which means that employees may be required to adjust their schedules and respond to requests outside of normal working hours to meet the university's demands. This could include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as necessary. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in the plumbing field. Candidates must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license, a New Hampshire State Plumber's Journeyman or Master License, and a NH Gas license. In addition to technical skills, the role demands strong interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively interact with customers, team members, contractors, and supervisors. The plumber/pipefitter will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended using work management software. The position includes responsibilities for service calls, preventative maintenance, project work, and leadership within the Facilities division, ensuring compliance with safety standards and plumbing codes. Responsibilities • Respond to service calls and requests related to plumbing equipment operation, repair, maintenance, installation, and removal. , • Repair heating, plumbing, steam, water, and drainage systems, ensuring compliance with plumbing codes and safety requirements. , • Troubleshoot minor and complex plumbing issues, providing expert knowledge on solutions. , • Utilize electronic troubleshooting and problem identification software. , • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to requests in a timely manner and communicating status updates to customers. , • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended using work management software. , • Perform preventative maintenance activities on University plumbing equipment, including inspections and hands-on maintenance needs. , • Participate in project management meetings regarding equipment replacement, renovations, and new building plans. , • Mentor, develop, and train apprentices and new employees in plumbing practices. , • Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus in the plumbing field. , • Follow all plumbing and gas codes, policies, procedures, and safety precautions in the performance of plumbing duties. , • Keep current on all required safety trainings, code license updates, and certifications.
