Mechanical Repairer-Welder - BC-10 New

About the position Responsibilities • Repairs, overhauls and maintains a variety of mechanical equipment and tools. • Heats, welds, cuts and brazes with oxyacetylene or electric welding equipment. • Services, overhauls and repairs pumps, generators, power movers, compressors, welding machines, jackhammers, electric motors, concrete mixers, pipe cutting machines and other small construction and maintenance equipment. • Services, overhauls and repairs small gasoline engines. • Makes periodic inspections of mechanical equipment, playground equipment and structures. • Fabricates and installs safety devices on all equipment. • Responsible for tools and equipment. • May supervise the work of mechanical repairers or helpers as required. • Lays out, marks and welds light and heavy gauge metals. • Repairs broken, cracked or leaky fixtures and equipment. • Hard faces shovel bucket teeth, grader and bulldozer blades, and other parts requiring a high degree of hardness. • Installs new flooring for trucks and welds same. • Patches automotive bodies. • Welds trucks, bulldozer and shovel frames. • Welds bridge framework. • Makes and repairs recreation and park equipment. • Sets up and regulates oxyacetylene and electric welding and cutting equipment. • Works from blueprints and sketches. • Estimates time and material needs. • Keeps records and prepares reports on jobs performed. Requirements • Completion of the eighth grade. • Four (4) years of experience in repairing mechanical equipment representative of the class. • One (1) year of work experience in welding. • Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver license at the time of filing. • A current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate is required prior to appointment.
