Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our dynamic team. Duties • Fabricate sheet metal components according to specifications and blueprints. • Assemble parts using various tools and equipment, including press brake machines. • Perform quality inspections on finished products to ensure they meet industry standards. • Utilize electrical discharge machining techniques as needed for precision tasks. • Operate machining tools such as lathes to create and modify parts. • Apply basic math skills to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements. • Weld components when necessary to ensure structural integrity. • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols at all times. Requirements • Proven mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication. • Proficiency in operating press brake machines and other fabrication tools. • Strong understanding of quality inspection processes and standards. • Familiarity with electrical discharge machining is a plus. • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to fabrication tasks. • Ability to weld is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to learn is essential. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Job Description: Under supervision of a supervisor or Journeyman, this position is responsible for the removal, assembly, installation and repair of sheetmetal products and equipment such as HVAC ducting, furniture, nonstructural bulkhead systems and ceiling systems in berthing, heads, living spaces, and food service areas on maritime vessels such as Navy Ships, Military Sealift Command ships, and commercial vessels. The qualifications and general capabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability desired by the shipyard. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 1. Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence. 2. Must have a working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature. 3. Must be physically and medically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) 4. Must be able to write Condition Found Reports (CFR) describing the material condition of the ship as it pertains to the assigned work item. 5. Must be willing and able to carry out written and verbal instructions provided by the supervisor and journeyman. 6. Must be able to interpret appropriate sections of NAVSEA, ABS, Coast Guard standards and manufacturer’s tech manuals. 7. Must have experience repairing and installing berthing equipment; galley equipment; ventilation ducting (heating and cooling); and joiner doors. 8. Must have experience using hand and power tools and understand the operation of fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls and routers. 9. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Must understand the US customary and metric measurement systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Must comply with OSHA standards and BAE best safety practices. 2. Arrive at the designated work site at the assigned time and end the shift as directed by the schedule and your supervisor. 3. Work shifts and overtime as assigned. 4. Keeping the work area clean and safe at all times, being aware of the added responsibility for fire prevention. 5. Complete daily work assignments and provide status of unfinished work to the supervisor and journeyman. 6. Assist with documenting Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) as required by the work specifications. 7. Resolve unexpected events related to your assigned task in a professional manner. 9. Work Tasks Include: a. Maintain a safe work environment, paying particular attention to the added requirements for hot work is required. b. Conduct a preproduction inspection of the work site and document the results. c. Assist with operational testing and documentation. d. Assist with the measurement, lay out, and remove of existing structures, furniture, and ventilation ducting as required by the drawings or specifications. e. Trim, file, grind, deburr, and buff surfaces with hand tools and power tools. f. Bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk or otherwise bond components. g. Assist with the installation of berthing equipment; galley equipment; ventilation ducting (heating and cooling); and joiner doors in accordance with drawings, specifications, and sketches. h. Run and remove lines and leads as required to accomplish work and in accordance with OSHA and BAE safety standards. i. Assist with the Lock-out Tag-out activities. j. Sheet Metal Mechanic

Position Location: Bremerton, WA Summary: Sheet metal mechanics are responsible for the layout, fabrication and installation of sheet metal parts made from sheet thicknesses up to 1/8 inch such as bulkheads, lockers, outfitting and furnishings and miscellaneous brackets. Sheet metal mechanics prefabricate, fit, install sheet metal structures in position for welding or riveting or other methods of mechanical fastening. Sheet metal mechanics prepare templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts. Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned. • Helps fabricate templated for bending / shaping ship shipboard structures, frames, bulkheads and brackets. • Assists with measurements, layout and cutting of templates. • Perform grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded or riveted using power and hand tools. • Proficient in riveting and fastening panels and sheet metal structures. • Perform housekeeping efforts to maintain cleanliness of the worksite. • Deliver materials as required. • Performs duties as Fire Watch. • Participates in special projects as required. • Employees may be required to travel for work to other locations Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
