Position Summary An Apprentice Plumber is an entry-level plumber working under the guidance of a Foreman or Journeyman Plumber. Apprentice plumbers perform many of the same tasks that Journeyman plumbers do, including installing new plumbing fixtures, unclogging plumbing systems, and repairing pipes. They may handle easier jobs on their own, under direct supervision of Foreman or Journeyman, and act as a helper on more complex jobs. Apprentice plumbers must be willing to work in various work environments. Apprentice plumbers are well organized and detail-oriented, can follow instructions and clear orders, enjoy working with a range of different people each day, and have strong mechanical skills. Primary Responsibilities and Duties • Assist Journeyman in diagnose plumbing problems and perform repairs • Install, assemble, maintain, and repair pipes and plumbing fixtures • Locate and repair water line leaks and remove clogs • Install and/or repair appliances like dishwashers, water heaters, toilets, sinks, etc. • Test plumbing and other installed fixtures to ensure proper function under direct supervision of Foreman or Journeyman Plumber. • Willingness to learn state laws and regulations and adhere to local building codes • Performs various related duties assigned by Foreman or Superintendent. Traits/Competencies • Willingness to learn various piping and ventilation systems • Willingness to learn all phases of building construction, including work commonly done by the various building crafts. • Willingness to learn electrical, mechanical, and structural systems. • Willingness to learn different types of building materials, tools, and machines. • Learn to read technical designs and blueprints Requirements • Have a valid Driver License. • Have reliable transportation. • High school graduation or equivalent. • Willingness to enroll in an accredited Apprenticeship program within a year of employment. • Willingness to acquire proper tools in a timely manner to perform learned job duties. • Available to work on call and respond immediately to plumbing emergencies to assist Foreman and Journeyman Plumbers. Physical Demands • The position requires standing, bending, reaching, lifting a majority of the workday. • Lift repetitively 50 pounds. • Climb ladders. • Work from scaffolding and lifts. • Drive a company vehicle (truck). • Other manual labor as required. Works from engineering drawings, sketches and other specifications. Measures, cuts, threads and installs pipes and fittings using hand and power tools. Completes calculations and measurements to ensure pipes function correctly. Performs ordering and estimating of jobs. Performs other related duties as assigned.
