Pipefitter Journeyman

Position: Pipefitter Salary: Competitive Salary and Compensation Location: CHARLESTON, SC – Cullum Mechanical Cullum Mechanical is now hiring a qualified, motivated, and reliable Pipefitter to join our Charleston team. Previous commercial or industrial pipe fitting experience is required. Job purpose: Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. Duties And Responsibilities • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications. • Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness. • Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers. • Cuts pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. • Threads pipe, using threading machine, ends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine. • Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic. • Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints. • Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using handtools. • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. • Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks. • May weld holding fixtures to structural steel members. Requirements • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings. • Work easily and skillfully with hands. • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. • See well (either naturally or with correction) • Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds. • Stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Job Summary As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for the layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional environments. Job Description We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter to lead our team in executing pipe fitting tasks at various construction and industrial sites. The role involves interpreting blueprints and specifications, selecting appropriate materials, and overseeing the assembly and installation of piping systems. Responsibilities • Review blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including locations, quantities, and material specifications. • Select the type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment according to specifications. • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes. • Prepare, cut, fabricate, layout, fit, position, and assemble piping components in various positions. • Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to secure them in position for welding. • Install hangers, supports, valves, and components according to piping system plans and specifications. • Perform leak tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems. • Identify and correctly use tools required for tasks, including grinders, drills, and beveling machines. • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes. • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment. Essential Skills • Proficiency in pipe fitting and interpreting blueprints. • Ability to read and understand weld symbols, weld procedures, mechanical and structural drawings. • Skill in using Oxy/fuel and Plasma hand cutting torch, plasma cutting. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with B31.3, B31.4, and API 1104 codes. • Welding and/or tacking experience using the GTAW process. • Familiarity with weld inspections and inspection documentation. • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter. • Formal/technical education in relevant fields.
