Job Summary Manages the Laboratory for Wind Engineering Research (LWER) safety including training of personnel/students and installation and maintenance schedules for all facility equipment. Instructs others in the use, operation and preventative maintenance for all tools and equipment. Maintains a variety of records relating to work orders, inventory and repairs. Oversees the construction of testing specimens and assists with technical reports to clients. • Conducts risk management, and helps develop risk management metrics for the Wall of Wind Experimental Facility (WOW EF); such metrics are needed by funding agencies for reports and proposals. • Interprets and implements policies and procedures as they apply to an assigned area of responsibility. May recommend changes on policy and procedures as necessary. • Develops, maintains, and enforces laboratory safety policies to ensure compliance with FIU and EH&S requirements. • Proactively identifies and mitigates safety-related risks to help achieve a target of zero incident reportables to FIU and sponsoring agencies • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification from a department administrator. • Instructs others in the use, operation and preventative maintenance for all tools and equipment. Maintains a variety of records relating to work orders, inventory and repairs. • Manages personal protective equipment (PPE) inventory, and emergency contact information. • Provides user training to ensure (i) safety of users, researchers, staff, and students, and (ii) secure operations within the Laboratory for Wind Engineering Research (LWER), especially for the WOW EF. • Assists with technical reports to clients and progress reports to funding agencies. • Works with WOW EF staff members to perform a variety of experimental testing for clients requiring a high degree of proficiency. Oversees specimen construction and instrumentation. • Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's rules and regulations. • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing.
