Job Title: Shop Welder/fabricator Overview: Suit-Kote Corporation, headquartered in Cortland NY, is a premier producer, provider and advisor of asphalt emulsions, road preservation services and construction services with 21 strategic locations throughout NY and PA looking to hire a shop welder/fabricator to assist in the repairs and fabrication of any equipment and/or facility needs to keep the company running at optimal performance. It is essential that this candidate has knowledge of SMAW, GMAW and FCAW procedures, have excellent attendance and follow all company policies with instructions given by the supervisor. Safety Expectations: All Suit-Kote employees are required to comply with all safety rules and to always observe safe work practices and operating procedures. Whenever on Suit-Kote property, job sites or operating Suit-Kote equipment employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the safety of the employee, co-workers and others. The Fabricator facilitates the safe and efficient project builds and subassemblies for the purpose of meeting fabrication demands and completion of work orders to build products of optimal quality with ontime delivery. Shift: Monday Friday 6:30 am 3:00 pm Essential Functions/Responsibilities • Safely and efficiently receive and transport incoming steel by loading and unloading materials onto or from trucks pallets trays racks and shelves. Use material handling equipment such as cranes pallet jacks forklifts and dollies to bring raw materials equipment and products to the appropriate location. Store items in a safe and efficient manner. • Accurately read and interpret work order information and precisely follow written or verbal instruction to determine service operations to be performed. Pick parts and kit materials and transport goods to workstations or designated areas as directed. • Expeditiously form and produce a variety of metal components and subassemblies by accurately interpreting engineering drawings and using appropriate metalworking equipment. • Efficiently setup and safely operate fabricating equipment such as horizontal steel band saw iron worker/metal muncher drill press plasma burning table with computerized control panel sheer and press brake to produce components. • Perform quality fabrication including setup layout and fit up based on accurate interpretation of engineering drawings work orders bills of material standard operating practices inspection documents and process control plans. • Determine appropriate fabrication equipment or method(s) based on requirements from blueprints and sketches. • Fit up and tack welding of cut materials according to standard shop practices in order to meet specified tolerances of finished weldment. • Consistently review completed welds and projects to ensure all completed work falls within the tolerances on the blueprints. Cut burn drill & tap grind etc. as needed to meet final specifications for part tolerance aesthetics and general quality expectations. • Final GMAW GTAW FCW or SMAW Welding in accordance with engineering drawings tolerances and specifications and welding procedures resulting in weldments that meet specifications for squareness dimensional tolerance warpage etc. • Safely rig and move materials and equipment using fork trucks and overhead crane in accordance with company procedures. Welding Engineer The Welding Engineer will be responsible for driving innovation and ensuring excellence in welding processes, creating comprehensive work instructions, driving process improvements, designing and implementing welding fixtures, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the welding processes. Possesses strong knowledge of welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW) and materials (e.g., metals, alloys). Has proficiency in CAD software for fixture design and layout.
