As a Maintenance Technician/Welder at AVEC you'll play a pivotal role in the member-driven service we provide and you will be asked to perform the duties of a Maintenance Technician but with a specialty in welding. The work of a Maintenance Technician/Welder involves organizing, directing, and performing construction tasks necessary to supply electrical energy to these remote villages via diesel generation and distribution systems. Each day will present new challenges and opportunities, allowing you to engage in diverse tasks such as major overhauls, repairs, preventive maintenance, and improvising temporary replacements. While traveling to our different communities, Maintenance Technicians instruct Power Plant Operators in equipment use, safe practices, and maintenance during field operations. As part of the traveling field staff, you are the ones that our Members see so there is much value to maintaining good relations with the member-owners and village councils and building their understanding and confidence in AVEC's value, mission and goals. The Maintenance Technician/Welder position will travel approximately 80% of the year. While traveling with AVEC, you will get to enjoy world class fishing and hunting during the hours that you aren't working and will get to see parts of Alaska that most Alaskans don't even get to see. The successful candidate will be responsible for welding, fabricating, and repairing metal structures and equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of welding techniques, blueprints, and safety standards. Qualifications: • Proven experience as a welder. • Certification in welding from an accredited institution is preferred. • Experience in diesel generation systems or similar technical fields. • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and environments in remote locations. • Self-motivation and a responsible work ethic for field operations.
