Structural Welder

Position Summary: The Structural Welder is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of welding machines to join or connect various types of metal parts for metal structures. The incumbent selects weld equipment, interprets blueprints, and determines which specifications to apply. Pay: $24-36 per hour Work Location: Anchorage, Alaska Workplace Benefits: • Medical Insurance (Individual and Family) • Dental Insurance • Vision Insurance • 401k with Company Match • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (Voluntary) • Life Insurance • Employee Assistance Program Essential Job Functions: • Analyzes blueprints and structural drawings • Adheres to applicable welding methods in completion of structural fabrications • Utilizes manual and mechanical processes to weld in various positions • Calibrates welding tools and equipment according to welding procedure specifications • Cleans and prepare metal work pieces using scrapers, chemical solutions and grinders to ensure a smooth and contaminant-free surface • Cuts, repairs, and assembles building components to form complete structures • Inspects and evaluates welds to ensure they are free of defect and adhere to specifications • Conducts post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing of work pieces • Other duties as assigned Required Minimum Qualifications: • Education: High school diploma or equivalent • Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in oil & gas or energy industries preferred • License/Certifications: Current and valid driver’s license Post Job Offer Requirements: • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test • Take and pass a Fit-for-Duty Examination Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: • Ability to consistently pass and perform acceptable NDE D1.1 AWS field weld inspection and maintain a project weld reject rate of >2% for fillet or full penetration welds in all positions. • Knowledge of industrial structural welding methods and techniques • Knowledge of proper use of equipment such as; welder torch, electrode holder, drill press, gas welding and welding electrode • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation • Knowledge and experience in oilfield operations, preferred • Ability to conduct appropriate tests to identify and correct faults in framework of structure • Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly Physical Demand/Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You will perform major overhauls and repairs, replacement of parts, assemblies and preventative maintenance, and fabricating or improvising temporary replacements. Welders may instruct Power Plant Operators during the operations and maintenance period in use of equipment, methods and safe practices involved in construction, correct operational problems and perform maintenance and repair on the distribution system and power plants. Description: The Single Hand Pipe Welder is responsible for operating welding machines to join or connect various types of pipe and fittings in an oil and gas industry setting. The incumbent will be responsible for selecting and setting up welding equipment. Job tasks and assignments may vary daily.
