What You Will Do: As a Welder, you will play an essential role within our Anchorage Field Construction & Maintenance department reporting to the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Weld according to ENSTAR's established welding procedures. • Weld on new and existing pressurized and non-pressurized pipelines. • Interpret drawings. • Layout, cut, fit, and fabricate pipelines, metering stations, compressor station, regulator stations and other related steel assemblies. • Work on projects with minimum supervision that require a high degree of precision, accuracy, and productivity. • Work on projects in adverse weather conditions, under demanding physical conditions. • Use initiative to plan and organize assigned work and to effectively direct activities of other employees to accomplish the assigned work in the most efficient manner. • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. • Perform pipeline mains and service line maintenance (other than welding). • Train other team members on welding techniques. What You Will Bring: • High School Diploma or equivalent. • Five or more years of welding experience. • Must be able to pass ENSTAR's multiple qualification welding test (12" branch test per API 1104, section 3.3). • Steel pipeline cutting, fitting, and welding experience on pressurized natural gas or oil pipelines preferred. • Pipeline hot tapping and pressure control experience preferred. • Heavy equipment operation experience (backhoe, dozer, trencher) preferred. • Must be qualified or successfully trained in all covered tasks in the natural gas distribution area including HDPE pipeline installation and maintenance. • Must be able to pass all federally required Operator Qualifications testing. • Possess a valid driver's license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy. Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License after 6 months with proper training. • Must be willing to work overtime as required and be able to work 24/7 emergency standby responsibilities on scheduled rotation. • Must reside within 60 minutes driving time of the Anchorage Operations Center on International Airport Road, and within 30 minutes driving time to the Anchorage Operations Center when on standby assignment. • Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening. Preferred skills and qualifications: • Basic knowledge of welding and ability to perform related tasks. • Intermediate knowledge of construction practices, and piped distribution systems; ability to perform related tasks. • Must be able to work safely in general and safely operate equipment used in the installation and repair of mains and/or service lines. • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR. • Ability to lead work crews. • Ability to wear and use ENSTAR's approved Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). • Ability to do basic math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication). • Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as they relate to fieldwork.
