Sheet Metal Worker

About the position Responsibilities • Ensures compliance with Kirtland AFB Design Guide Standards and building codes. • Responds to customer service calls in a timely manner and performs necessary repairs. • Completes documentation in accordance with company processes and customer service requirements. • Communicates with central dispatch and shop supervisor regarding work order status. • Participates in an after-hours on-demand service program. • Accomplishes sheet metal fabrication and assembly on maintenance and construction projects. • Performs layout and fabrication of ductwork and building components using mechanical fasteners or welding. • Maintains a safe workplace program and prioritizes safety in the workplace. • Liaises with clients, suppliers, and other construction professionals. Requirements • Minimum education level of high school diploma or GED equivalent. • One (1) year of sheet metal fabrication and assembly experience in commercial or manufacturing spaces. • One (1) year of commercial overhead and rollup door installation and maintenance experience. • Ability to read and interpret building diagrams and technical manuals. • Competency in basic math skills including fractions, addition, subtraction, and division. • Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks. • Proficient English oral and written communication skills. • Must be a US citizen and possess or be able to obtain a U.S. government-issued security clearance. • Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license. • Ability to pass a drug screen. • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks involving lifting at least 50 lbs. • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Summary We have a current opportunity for a “Composite and Sheet Metal Technician” located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. In this role you will perform critical tasks to manufacture cutting edge space craft using a multitude of different prepreg materials, bonding adhesives, and aerospace coatings. You will perform sheet metal fabrication techniques using air tools, clamps, and riveters to assemble critical space flight hardware. You will assist engineers in the manufacture of components, equipment, and machinery. You may also help prepare proposals and cost estimates by estimating workload to establish completion dates. Responsibilities • Fabricate composite components per engineering documentation • Fabricate sheet metal components using aircraft techniques and assembly documentation • Take ownership and maintain documentation for complex, high-reliability assemblies • Perform manufacturing procedures, rework, and repair on spaceflight hardware • Modify mechanical parts using hand and machine tools • Identify faulty parts during the assembly process • Work with engineers to troubleshoot and solve technical issues • Cross train in multiple areas of specialty Requirements • High School diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of composite manufacturing experience • Experience performing composite fabrication and assembly • Experience performing sheet metal fabrication and assembly • Ability to read and work to engineering documentation and blueprints • Familiar with tools and techniques used for composite manufacturing including prepreg lay-up, vacuum bag, tape wrap, etc. • Familiar with tools and techniques used for sheet metal manufacturing including drills, shavers, riveters, clamps, jigs and tools, etc. • Experience using metrology tools (Micrometers, Calipers, Multi-meters, etc.) • Excellent manual dexterity, ability to handle small parts • Possess strong problem solving and communication abilities • High standard of workmanship • US citizen or legally authorized to work in the US per ITAR regulations Desired Skills • Security Clearance a plus • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring junior technicians • Experience setting up and operating manual and automated composite fabrication equipment such as thermal chambers, autoclaves, ply cutters, rolling tables, etc. • Experience designing and fabricating tooling for composite and or sheet metal fabrication. • Experience in hazardous waste control and disposal including government hazardous waste program requirements. • Experience in corrosion control of space and aircraft structure and manufacturing techniques.
