Plumber, Maintenance Mechanic III

Basic Function The individual occupying this position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled trade duties in the maintenance and repair of Borough buildings, furnishings, and equipment, with an emphasis on plumbing service work repairs. SALARY: 17A REPORTS TO: Maintenance Division Manager POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None Typical Duties 1. Maintain and replace building water system components (check valves, backflow PRV, meters). 2. Perform plumbing repair work on water, heating, sewer lines, and refrigeration. 3. Repair work on drains, drain fields, septic systems, drywell, pool filtration systems and lift stations, pool facilities, ice rinks, and general public facilities. 4. Help maintain and repair boilers, furnaces, and burners. 5. Perform a variety of electrical repairs on existing equipment. 6. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; initiate necessary requisitions for supplies procurement and maintain appropriate records. 7. Oversee contracted services and repair work on Borough owned or leased facilities. 8. Assists Division managers in reviewing design, submittal, and inspection of facilities construction projects. 9. Perform maintenance/system data input and retrieval from computers and computer controlled equipment. Position Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. Three years technical/apprentice training as a plumber and four years’ experience; OR a minimum of seven years of responsible work experience in maintenance and/or construction experience in facilities of similar use in various trades (i.e. pools, animal shelters, libraries, parks, ice rinks, office buildings, etc.). 2. State certification of Fitness/Plumber Journeyman. 3. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Must be capable of performing tasks independently, comprehending equipment drawing, maintenance, and operations manuals, diagrams, and blueprints. 2. Must be knowledgeable with diagnostic testing of controls systems, boiler systems, refrigeration systems, and electrical systems; experienced in performing major repairs, and knowledgeable in the use of specialized and standard tools and equipment. 3. Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors and other job contacts. Ability to accurately complete written documentation of work performed. 4. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer using a variety of computer programs. Must be able to understand and operate an electronic work order system and provide equipment updates in the system. OTHER 1. Ability to wear a respirator and pass a respirator physical. 2. Capable of being contacted during off hours. 3. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED. 4. This position requires a criminal background check.
