Pipe Fitter - TEST ANNOUNCEMENT

Examination A test will be administered to create an list of candidates for this position. Once created, the list will be used for other Pipefitter vacancies that may occur for a period of up to one year. This test is available for promotion and open candidates. Weight: 100% Written Examination (pass/fail) A passing score of at least 75% is required. You will be notified of the results of the examination. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will be notified of the date and time for the written exam. General Information General Statement of Duties Performs skilled trade work in the installation, service and maintenance of heating and cooling pneumatic/electric control systems and component parts; performs regular pipefitter duties in the repair, maintenance, modification and installation of steam piping, cooling circulation systems and steam and hot water heating systems and component units. Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the General Lead Pipefitter, Lead Pipefitter and/or Maintenance Supervisor. Supervision Exercised May exercise technical supervision over Apprentice Pipefitters. Qualifications • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate. • Possession of a certificate evidencing the completion of training as an Apprentice Pipefitter and two years of experience as a Journeyman Pipefitter. • Training or experience must include two years of pneumatic control work. • Must possess Competency Cards issued by the City of St. Paul, Department of Safety and Inspections as follows: • o Low Pressure Steam/ Hot Water ¿ Steam 15 PSI or less, or hot water 30 PSI or less and 250 degrees Fahrenheit • o Oil Burner Installer ¿ Class A (unlimited capacity) • o Gas Installer ¿ Class A (unlimited capacity) • o Refrigeration ¿ Class A (unlimited capacity) • o Universal CFC • Must possess a certificate showing completion of training in Pro 10 through the union or successfully complete the training within six months of appointment. • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state license, including no revocations or suspensions for the two year period prior to the date of employment. Duties and Resposibilites The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties: • Installs, services and maintains heating and cooling pneumatic/electric control systems and their component parts. • Fabricates, assembles, erects, installs dismantles, repairs, reconditions, adjusts, alters and services heating and cooling pneumatic/electric control systems and related equipment. • Provides preventative maintenance services to heating and cooling controls and control systems. • Repairs, maintains, modifies and installs steam and hot water heating systems and cooling circulation systems. • Repairs and repacks valves; inspects and repairs pressure, temperature and water level gauges. • Cuts, taps and threads pipe; welds and solders pipe. • Works with the department¿s Storekeeper to coordinate the procurement of materials and resources required for the effective completion of work assigned. • Contributes to the District's Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of the full range of terms, principles, regulations, and procedures associated with pipefitting installations including: HVAC systems, boiler systems (steam and hot water), hydronic heating and cooling system, and condensate return systems and skill in installing, servicing and maintaining pneumatic/electrical control systems. • Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and safe work practices of the pipefitting trade. • Some knowledge of building constructions methods. • Possess basic computer & mobile device skills, including proficiency in a corrective & preventive work order system, word processing and data manipulation. • Ability to understand and apply procedures for installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and temperature control devices, and steam and hot water systems. • Working ability to understand and follow drawings, blueprints and oral instructions. • Ability to interact effectively with all customers. • Ability to assist in identifying and responding to the needs of all customers. • Ability to complete required departmental forms, records, and daily reports in a thorough and timely manner. • Ability to frequently perform fine motor skills and grasp objects. • Ability to frequently withstand repetitive motion of the neck and trunk. • Ability to frequently lift up to 15 pounds. • Ability to occasionally lift equipment, tools, and supplies of up to 50 pounds, maneuver them around obstacles and under adverse conditions. • Ability to occasionally push and pull various tools. • Ability to frequently get in and out of awkward positions while working in limited space. • Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, reach to shoulder height and above for up to 30 minutes at a given time. • Ability to occasionally climb ladders. • Ability to operate a lift.
