PIPEFITTER FOREMAN Primary Purpose: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping, fixtures, and equipment for gas, steam, hot water, fire sprinkler system, or oil heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems. Typical Duties: Assigns workers to specific duties. Inspects completed processing systems to determine conformance to specifications. Trains new workers in use of equipment and tools. Requirements: • NCCER Foreman certification is preferred. • Physically, the worker must be capable of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. • Intellectually the worker must be able to apply and interpret principles of rational systems (bookkeeping, engines, electronics, building), to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; must be competent in beginning algebra and geometry and should be skilled in the computation of discount, interest, profit and loss; commission, markup, and selling price; ratio, proportion; and percentage. • The worker must be able to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work. • The worker must able to write reports and letters with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. The worker must be able to speak, using correct English before an audience with poise, voice control, and confidence. • The amount of specific job training required to learn the techniques, information, and facility needed for average performance in this position is from 4 to 10 years.
