LEAD AIR CONDITIONING MECHANIC (WS-10) [1 vacancy]

Supervises and participates in the maintenance, repair, overhaul and operation of air conditioning and refrigeration systems; and performs other related duties as required. Current Vacancy: There is one vacancy with the Department of Enterprise Services, Building Services Division. Under the general supervision of the Auditoriums Trades Unit Supervisor, supervises and participates in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, testing and operation of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. May provide emergency assistance to various Department of Enterprise Services facilities and island-wide concessions. Operates a vehicle to travel to geographically dispersed departmental-wide facilities to perform normal and emergency repair/maintenance work on air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Special Working Conditions: Working with refrigerants; working in restricted space areas for extended periods of time; working at heights. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show demonstrated competence in performing the journey level duties of an Air Conditioning Mechanic. (An Air Conditioning Mechanic performs skilled journey level work in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and operation of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.) Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles of air conditioning and refrigeration; methods and procedures used in the operation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems; servicing requirements, tools, chemicals and testing equipment relating to the operation and maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems; hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work; and the ability to identify malfunctions and defects and take corrective action; maintain, service and repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems and units; use and maintain tools and equipment pertinent to the trade; interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications and drawings; give and follow oral and written instructions; assign, review and schedule the work of subordinates; and maintain harmony in work relationships and among workers. LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT: 1. At time of application, a technician certificate approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the servicing and disposal of refrigerants. QualificationsMinimum Requirements Must have at least four (4) years' verifiable and advanced HVAC experience A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
