Wind Tech (Entry to level II)

REQUIRED EDUCATION: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Technical degree in wind generation, electrical technology, electronics/fiber technology, mechanical maintenance technology, or related field highly desirable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Industrial experience preferred Wind Tech I: No experience required. Wind Tech II: One year or more technical wind industry experience, OR in absence of technical wind industry experience, three years or more experience working with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical maintenance. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: • These positions report regularly in person within the ALLETE Renewable Resources service territory • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather, climb ladders without assistance, and work at heights greater than 250 feet from the ground surface. • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as some travel may be required • Must obtain Commercial Applicator Certification within six months of hire. • First aid, CPR, AED, high angle rope rescue certification, forklift certification, and OSHA 10 certification preferred. • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude This Candidate Pool may be used to fill openings until December 15, 2024. Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer – Mid Level

The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering and related technical expertise on renewable energy facilities. About the Role: This position involves working with design teams to prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimations for DC and AC collection systems, power plant controllers, and other renewable energy infrastructure. Responsibilities: • Prepare detailed designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers • Conduct analysis and develop plans and specifications for renewable energy facilities • Write reports and develop cost estimates for project stakeholders • Manage projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results • Mentor and coach less-experienced staff to enhance their skills and knowledge • Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members to ensure project success Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field • At least 5 years of experience working in a design capacity on renewable energy projects • Strong knowledge of solar DC and AC collection system design and power plant controllers • Experience with codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to renewable energy projects • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office • Ability to work collaboratively with team members in a fast-paced environment • A flexible schedule and willingness to travel as needed • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: • 10+ years of experience working on renewable energy projects • Experience with collection system studies, including ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, and transient overvoltage • Experience with energy storage facilities and resource modeling techniques • Demonstrated project organization and management skills • Client-relationship and business-development skills Work Arrangements: Barr Engineering Co. offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement for this position, which may include splitting time between a Barr office and a home office or working primarily from a home office. This position is based out of various locations, including Colorado and Minnesota offices.
