Shop Welder

Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon. Job Summary: Welder has the responsibility of welding and fabricating projects in a shop setting. Duties include cutting, fitting, tacking, welding, and grinding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Will also be assisting others in the fabrication process. Help maintain a clean and organized shop. Have an understanding of engineering drawings and welding symbols. Welder also inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, cleans, and maintains new and existing equipment and/or systems. It is essential for the Welder to be able to communicate with other team members and to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently. Any vocational training is strongly desired.· Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.)· 1 Year or more of welding/fabrication work experience at meets or exceeds performance expectations.· Frequent use of basic hand and measurement tools.· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work. • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment. • Ability to read and interpret all AWS basic weld symbols and typical welding symbols. • Comprehend a Bill of Material to determine necessary materials and requirements. • 1-2 years welding experience preferred. Physical Requirements: • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.· Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks. • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and able to lift up-to 50 or more pounds frequently. • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.

Standard work schedule will be from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Fabricator job duties include cutting out, positioning, and piecing together structural metal parts, following precise instructions before welding. Must read and understand engineering specs supplied by manuals, diagrams, and computerized drafting programs. Fabricators also have to utilize many unique tools and precision measuring instruments. Overtime required depending on workload. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: • Must be able to pass a 2G horizontal weld test using the GMAW process • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings • Understanding of welding principles and practices • Ability to use squares, measuring tapes, mag drills, grinders, and other hand tools required for fabrication • Able to fit up and weld pieces for fabrication • Able to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
