Welder/Fitter

This job was posted by https://www.kansasworks.com : For more information, please see: https://www.kansasworks.com/jobs/13091212 • Perform all work duties with safety as primary responsibility. • Plan, sequence, setup and perform a variety of operations involved in the layout, fitting, welding and/or bolting of a variety of assemblies made from steel beams, plates, angels, channels, etc. • Duties require the use of rules, squares, bevels, chalk lines, jigs and fixtures, etc. together with the use of drawings. • Use hoist of overhead crane to position and move material. • Obtain main material, detail pieces and shop drawings for work as assigned by the supervisor. • Prepare necessary jigs and fixtures required. • Set up area and establish control points for making lay-down of a combination of girders. • Working from drawings, position and assemble component pieces into the correct location and relative configuration as specified. • Perform necessary layout of material as required. • Clamp, bolt and/or tack weld the parts together for subsequent final bolting or welding. • Check and inspect parts and pieces for accuracy. • Grind, burn bend, straighten, etc. as required to achieve correct fit or advise supervisor of pieces, which need to be re-worked. • Check and adjust camber as required. • Instruct, train and check the work of helpers, welders and/or other fitters assigned to work crew. • Keep required job time and production records. • Detect faulty operations, defective material and errors in drawings. Report questionable cases to supervisor. • Maintain the work area, tools and equipment in a clean, proper and orderly manner. • Follow Company quality and quantity work requirements and safety rules and regulations. Detect unsafe conditions and behaviors and immediately report to supervisor
