Sheet Metal Mechanic Paying up to $32 - $100 a day per diem Job Description We are seeking skilled Sheet Metal Mechanics and Lead Mechanics with over 3 years of experience. The roles are available across multiple sites, including Lynchburg and Roanoke, VA. Candidates will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from reading blueprints to leading teams, and will be working on projects with durations ranging from 6 months to a year. Responsibilities • Read and interpret blueprints to understand project requirements. • Lead and manage a crew of 2 to 6 team members, depending on experience. • Install duct work and related equipment efficiently and accurately. • Perform layout tasks for duct and equipment placement. • Supervise daily tasks and ensure project timelines are met. • Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work sites. • Maintain and clean work areas to ensure safety and efficiency. Essential Skills • 3 to 10 years of experience in sheet metal trade. • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints. • Ability to install duct work and use hand and power tools. • Experience in HVAC installation and sheet metal fabrication. • Ability to supervise and manage a team effectively. • Journeyman level experience is preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience running a crew with 1 to 4 helpers is preferred. • Capability to measure and cut duct work using hand tools. • Physical ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. • Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions. • Excellent people skills and a positive attitude. • Reliable transportation. As the Sheet Metal Journeyman, you will work with the mechanical team to fabricate, assemble and install mechanical systems on various commercial construction sites. Compensation aspects of the role are dependent upon knowledge, skills and experience. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Install a variety of HVAC materials including but not limited to round pipe/spiral duct, flex duct, motorized dampers, fire dampers, splitter dampers, air devices, louvers and air moving equipment. • Install duct work and sheet metal assemblies on work site according to blueprints and specifications. • Fabricate or alter parts using shears, hammers, punches, snips, drills, brakes, and bending rollers along with other handheld and power tools. • Install support hangers, make duct connection using clips, drives, nuts, bolts, TDC tape, sealer, sheet metal screws, etc. as needed. • Install manual dampers, supporting hardware, etc., make final connections to equipment. • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff and smooth surfaces, seams and joints of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools. • Fasten seams and joints with bolts, cement, rivets, caulk, clips, etc. • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, rivets and install spin-in, peel and stick, or airtight duct tape, connect to branch duct. • Able to work from ladders, manlifts and other equipment at various heights. • Operate man lift, personal lift, chain hoist, duct jack. • Perform other related duties or special projects, as assigned. Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications • 1 year of experience working within the HVAC / mechanical trade installing systems on commercial and / or industrial construction sites preferred. • Valid / current journeyman license preferred. • Experience with tools including but not limited to shears, brakes, bending rolls, punch, drill press, snips and other hand and power tools. • Experience leading / coaching Helpers and Laborers • OSHA 10-hour preferred. • Ability to work from ladders and man lifts from various heights. As our Sheetmetal Shop Supervisor, you will: Manage the day to day needs of the department making sure employees follow company rules and policies. Maintain a safe work environment. Work with field personnel on scheduling to meet production goals. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Work on production floor to ensure quality standards and production goals are being met daily. Responsibilities will include: • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate Fabrication division personnel • Manage fabrication production schedule to ensure commitments are met by communication with project managers and field supervisors • Use CAM software to input and design ductwork fittings for production • Monitor production levels and address as needed to ensure productivity metrics are being met through coaching and training • Manage communications with internal and external customers • Compile weekly billings and submit to accounting for processing • Manage material and parts inventory • Oversee machinery maintenance and keep preventive maintenance work logs and up to date • Oversee shop safety by continued training & monitoring as well as conduct weekly safety meetings • Set up and coordinate deliveries to job sites • Monitor material cost and adjust billing rates as necessary • Compile estimates and provide up to date billing rates • Other Duties as Assigned Qualifications: • Some college and five to seven years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience. • Prefer Minimum (2) years in production-based manufacturing setting preferably in the HVAC Sheetmetal industry. • Able to maintain confidential information. • Clear written and verbal communication. • Work well in a team environment. • Good PC skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook). • Strong math abilities and reasoning skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Spectrum Accounting Software experience is a plus. • Ability of lift 25lbs.
