Operations Manager – Commercial Roofing and Sheet Metal, Clarksburg WV

Sutter Roofing & Metal Company, is a well-established and highly respected commercial roofing and sheet metal contractor seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join our leadership team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial roofing and sheet metal, with a proven track record of managing crews, coordinating multiple projects, and communicating effectively across all levels—from field foremen to customers to office staff. The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient execution of field operations, delivering projects on time and within budget, maintaining high safety and quality standards, and fostering strong communication between the field and office. This is a leadership role requiring technical expertise, organizational excellence, and exceptional communication skills. Daily Responsibilities Provide leadership to the operations department and within the company • Collaborate with Estimators, Superintendents, Safety Manager, Project Managers, Metal Shop Manager, Drivers / Operators, and other internal teams for seamless project delivery. • Meet daily with superintendents to review the previous and next day’s activities • Conduct regular site visits and job walks to ensure compliance and performance alignment. • Lead weekly operations meetings and provide regular updates to senior leadership. • Stay current on new developments and technologies in roofing • Ensure service vehicles, equipment and employees present a clean and professional image • Partner with service manager regarding policy development and training about procedures to ensure consistency in repairs, maintenance and service Supervise employees for maximum performance • Oversee day-to-day field operations across multiple job sites, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are met or exceeded. • Supervise, support, and develop field foremen and roofing crews to maximize team performance and project results. • Review wages and job performance for all operations employees • Conduct monthly meetings with superintendent and field workers • Determine training needs for roofing crews; organize and direct needed training in safety, quality and customer satisfaction • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, train, mentor and retain a dependable and knowledgeable workforce Manage department workflow • Plan and coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors for optimal project execution. • Serve as the primary field liaison between the customer, office staff, and project teams—ensuring expectations are managed and met. • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and job progress; identify and resolve issues proactively. • Review jobs, time tickets and materials invoices for projects • Review, submit and give final approval to accounts receivable for all projects • Document project discrepancy between budget and actual • Review and analyze budget reports and prepare and develop budget modifications and recommendations • Monitor accounts receivables for the operations department and keep accounts current Special Position Requirements • Sit, stand, walk, climb, and balance. • Stoop, crouch, and step over obstacles. • Lift and/or move 50 lbs. • Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, cold/hot temperatures, and humidity. • Available to work extended hours. Qualifications • Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial roofing and sheet metal (EPDM, TPO, PVC, Modified Bitumen systems, Architectural metal roof systems, re-roofing, new construction, coatings, etc.) • Prior experience managing crews and running multiple large-scale commercial projects. • Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and team-building skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to communicate clearly and professionally with field staff, customers, vendors, and office personnel. • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle competing priorities. • Solid understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA standards. • Tech-savvy; comfortable with job tracking software, email communication, and mobile apps used in the field. Ex: Procore, Bluebeam, WorkMax, FCS, others • Valid driver’s license.
