Plumber - Full Time - Days

Plumber Cayuga Health System began by joining two longstanding, independent hospitals into a cohesive health-care network providing seamless, comprehensive, community centered care for the residents of central New York. Under the supervision of the Facility Manager, this position is responsible for the more complex and critical Medical Air, Steam, and Plumbing systems of the facility, performing a variety of building and maintenance repair tasks of a skilled and semi-skilled nature in the areas of environmental control, automated and mechanical equipment maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems. Roles and Responsibilities: • Performs skilled Plumbing work. Demonstrates skilled use of the computer facility management software system. • Performs semi-skilled HVAC work • Ability to perform and complete work at various sites throughout the healthcare network in an efficient manner. • Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures. Inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates, and repairs or replaces components of the Plumbing system. Services and repairs the more complex Plumbing equipment. Schedules and maintains records of maintenance repairs. Required Skills and Experience: • HS Diploma or equivalent experience • Demonstrable Plumbing experience • 2+ years of experience in facilities engineering in a hospital environment • 5+ years of relevant commercial plumbing experience Preferred Skills and Experience: • NYS Backflow Preventer Certification, Medical Gas ASSE 6040 certifications Preferred Physical Requirements: • This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder. Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM serves as a partner within the zone structure for the Contract Colleges (CC), Endowed (EN), and Student and Campus Life (SCL) zones. As a key steward of the University’s facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance. Perform installation of and the maintenance on all building and/or utilities distribution piping systems associated with the plumber, pipefitter and sprinkler fitter trade. Individual must have a strong knowledge of the plumbing, pipefitting and pipe welding industry, and an ability to read and understand shop & field drawings / documents. This is a benefits-eligible, union position within the BTC. The starting pay rate is $40.47/hour. Required Qualifications: Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years of experience in the plumbing or related field. Must belong to the local Plumbers Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell. Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites. Good customer relations, interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills. Required to inspect and work in crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, ventilation equipment, mechanical rooms, mechanical shafts, sub basements and confined, isolated areas. Access to these may be by ladder or scaffold tower on platforms up to 100’ high. Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt. Use of employer provided safety equipment, including a respirator, is required. Must be available to work overtime as duties require, including weekends. Possibility of shift work. Delivers heavy material to job sites. Must have ability to ascend and descend heights, have agility and freedom of movement, ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffold, and ability to move easily in confined spaces. Preferred Qualifications: Apprentice certification desirable. No visa sponsorship provided for this position.
